Why do hardener not increase the resistance of armor as much as they state they will? For example, Energized Adaptive Membrane II says 20 increase in resistance to all. However, when it is installed what you actually get is 13 percent increase in EM damage and 84 percent increase in explosive. When adding a second one, EM goes up 8.8 percent and explosive increases by 37 percent. I do not understand how to figure this out so can someone please explain it to me?

Edited by: Kel Shek on 22/08/2004 09:45:00 I belive the resistances are such where you get that % of the difference between the existing resistance, and 100%.
making 100% resistance impossible.
now the % for stacking... I'm not sure how that works.
but, with a default of: 60% EM 9% Explosive 35% Kinetic/Thermal
1x Energized Adaptive Membrane 1(15% resist to all) pushes it to: 65% EM 23% Explosive, 44% Kinetic/Thermal
which... roughly, makes aproximate sense. 2x Energized Adaptive's: 69% EM 31% Explosive 50% Kinetic/Thermal
sooo.. any math whizes want to figure out how the stacking pentalty works...?
edit: forgot to say something,

The increase only applies to the 'unresisted' part. For example:
Armour on a Megathron has 60% EM resistance - this means 40% of EM damage to armour is 'unresisted'.
The plate gives a 20% increase on that unresisted 40%.
0.2 x 0.4 = 0.08
0.6 + 0.08 = 0.68 or 68% EM resistance
Let's hope all those figures are right but I'm sure someone will come along and shout at me if they're not

Edited by: Roderic Excelion on 22/08/2004 12:03:00 Yep, thats right, also theres the same stacking penalty as with damage mods. Some bright spark has the formula in another thread somewhere, but VERY rougly, every extra one beyond the frist is half as effective as the one before. If you have 4 slots spare, fit 1 of each type, IMO.
