I've discovered there are often times in EVE where I need to save a tidbit of information from a variety of sources. These things often include characters, items, systems, and occasionally fittings. Unfortunately there is very little support for storing this sort of random amalgamation anywhere without using an awkward drag|copy|re-drag through a chat channel.
What I propose to help alleviate this issue is a Clipboard app in EVE. This board will function similar to a Hangar but instead of storing your owned materials it will be a place to drag People, Places, and Things. In addition to being able to hold an unrelated collection of items, clips could be saved similar to notes and the board could have several tabs available for multiple active clips.
In regards to assets, people would show as their drag-icon, items would simply appear as normal, systems would use the system drag-icon, and fittings could just use the fitting icon. Basically there are no new icons needed. Hopefully this idea is something that can be implemented by an inventive UI dev in a burst of "spare" time.
I'll work on making a quick mock-up of the idea for those of you whom are visual, but please I'd love to hear any feedback or input. The goal though is to keep this a relatively simple groundwork tool that can vastly improve the day-to-day office work of EVE.
PS: Imagine the possibilities if you can share clipboards Suddenly intel reporting becomes awesome! |

It's called the Notepad in Eve. You should check it out. It's text, not icons, but can still hold whatever links to fits and items you want and can hold much more since it can hold notes too. |

I use the notepad quite often, which is what lead to this idea in fact. As such, I don't think you understand the purpose of what I am purposing.
I'm suggesting a step above the notepad. Currently using the notepad method you are forced to open the link to the items saved, and then drag them again. I am purposing saving them in icon-draggable form instead. This removes the middle step of being forced to open each individual item to simply re-drag it.
*EDIT Also, I just checked to confirm if you simply copy paste the text from a notepad it comes out without any linking data whatsoever. Once again forcing the unnecessary step of opening the link and then dragging. |

I think I understand what your saying and I like your idea. It sounds like the notepad just needs to be updated more to meet our current needs. If you were able to drag the note to an email and it kept the proper format with all the links in it THAT would go a long way to meeting what you want it to do correct?
