Hey all,
Having the same problem as tanaka shinjiro above. Have been playing eve successfully on my mac for over a year with no errors. Immediately after the Dominion patch, I've been getting screen freezes and socket disconnects every 5-10minutes. Sometimes I need to empty my cache to get the game to work again, though not always. For what it's worth it seems to happen when I'm near a warp gate. just to re-emphasize, the game was 100% problem-free before dominion patch. Thanks for any help offered!

This is basically what I am seeing. The problem does seem to be network related; in particular the periodic background tasks like syncing with .Mac or backing up to my remote Time Machine. Before you just say the problem is on my end, there are two issues:
1) prior to Dominion, things would slow down but very rare connection drops. I don't think my ISP changed much over the Dominion deployment downtime.
2) What is clearly a bug is that if my internet connection is not up to the client's standards, then the client should just cease working. But the ESC Quit and CommandQ should both work (slow internet should not cause a hang/freeze) and it should not take a cache clear to get it to restart.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there people.
Prior to Dominion i have had no issues with gameplay or disconnections, now after this patch i've been experiencing Socket Closed Errors everytime i'm in PVP, the problem occurs mainly when i warp to a designated location and the grid never loads, it happens exactly so, i get out of warp and immediately my client goes down.
Strangely this has also been affecting my Ventrilo Client and the EvE client that used to reboot itself for login now doesn't even do that. I have to wait for a minute or so because if another EvE client is opened the status of the server in the login screen is displayed as "Status Unknown" .
Eventually i can log back in , in a couple seconds.
My OS - Vista Premium x64 SP2 ISP - Deutsche Telekom
And no, i have had no previous issues with EvE in this regard or any other internet connections. _____________________________________ Retribution and Death! |

I am, too, having closed socket errors. HAS NOT been an issues since the latest expansion was released. I can't even make it to the last area in Guristas Extra before I lose control of game. The problem starts as lag then it just sits and sits and sits and sits then finally warns me of a Connection Lost: Socket was Closed.
Logserver not showing anything unusual either.
I hope this gets resolved soon. Game unplayable atm, sadly....

i've had a stable connection since i started playing EVE back in '06, but ever since Dominion, both of my computers are kicking me out every few minutes.
once in a while, i'll have about a 5 minute period of not receiving a response from the server, then i can continue playing. but for the most part i usually get a "socket closed" error and have to relog. *********************************** InVictus Kell Tactical Solutions, Inc. I'm running windows 7 RC 7100 64bit. I get disco'd approx every 5 minutes. (fairly consistently). Disabling all audio stretches it to 10-15min.
I did not have this problem with win7 RC b4 Dominion.
I certainly did not have this problem with XP prior to upgrading OS.
Having played EVE for 2 years on the same ISP I would be confident in ruling that aspect of the problem out.

Clearly the server is rejecting connections. However my TTL changes to 116 after, bad router problem somewhere near eve servers?

CONNECTION LOST
['reasonCode': None, 'reason': u'The connection to the server was closed.'. 'exception': error(10038, 'Socket operation on non-socket', 'WSASend failed with error 10038: An error has occurred of type WSAENOTSOCK\r\n'). 'reasonArgs': []]
Client is non-responsive but if I force closed, I have to remove all settings and cache files before it will let me log back in. (Otherwise, it just lags at the login site.) Happens approximately every 15 minutes. No issues prior to Dominion.. Anyone know if there is a workaround? I've reset my router, I've removed and reinstalled.. Nothing seems to work.... Day # 2 of not being able to play...

Originally by: Sexi Arrow One funny thing that happens to me was: When i still were on a trial, there were not even a "socked closed" or unexpected client reboot.
Now i have a subscription, and suddenly i see all these problems. I did not pay for this..
Also when the client wants a reboot, i also lose my internet-connection for 1-2 seconds. (The router is still running, and other lan-users is not affected. Just me.)
Same thing happened to me - used a trial account for 2 days, no problems whatsoever. Loved the game decided to subscribe and only about a day after I subscribed I started getting these "socket closed" disconnections. Happens 2-5min after I log in, its unplayable! Very disappointed.... Dont expect any more of my money ccp.

Can't even log on for more than 30 seconds.
Actually just read this thread, I can not believe you said it's only affecting a "small" number...anything been done about this? You may notice this thread has a few more than 40 people complaining in it.

I lost a Golem due to all my fleet members getting socket errors earlier.
It's making the game impossible to play. I don't mind losing ships through my own stupidity. But when I lose them because the game keeps crashing - that isn't exactly fun.

Please CCP fix this problem. Along with your desync issues. Its making this game hard to play when you can log in for more than 10 minutes.
BTW CCP its been over a year since you first started getting petitions due to this issue.

I've been having this issue since April of this year. I can successfully log in ONCE per day (IF THAT) at around 1200 EST. The only way this is possible for me, it seems, is if I'm doing a constant stream of something. For example, I tried logging in at noon today, and it didn't work. Then I pulled up zeitgeist on google.com and started streaming, and I logged in, and stayed logged in for about an hour. I don't know why I can only loggin at that time of the day, and only when I'm streaming something, but I thought it might help some other people.
I feel that CCP should fix this issue before coming out with any new expansion, or any material. There are many people that have been affected by this (some that I know of have quit eve over it, and i'm considering it too- since all I can really do is skill change), so what's the point in adding new game content if we can't loggin to see it?
Just my 2cents here- If a larger company like blizzard (maybe not EA, cause they suck :P) were in charge of Eve, I bet they'd have this problem fixed right away...

Edited by: Jack Be''Flippen on 13/12/2009 17:00:45 i also have this problem interesting is that is does seem to effect vent as well, and my ISP repetitively shows i have a stable connection. gmail doesnt go offline during this.
even more interesting is that i didnt have a problem until the 10th of dec. i was fine! now it drops me during warp, undocking, and checking my eve isk balance on my wallet when i want to look at transactions.
it is weird that i had Dominion for over a week then it happens.
not all the time, but about every 5 minutes seems to be the medium.
trying to log this is very hard, you can not catch it doing speed tests because my net is fine. ----------------------------------------------- I-R-S "We have what it takes to take what you've got" |

correction: was my ISP,
i was timing out but is was so intermittent that i had to ping a website over 10,000 times in succession to see a pattern. my ISP also did this and found a solution.
so if vent is also logging when eve does, it isnt the game. or at least i cant see why it would be.

Running a live stream in the background (such as from an internet radio broadcast) seems to solve the problem. You can always mute the annoying dj.
Also, since I was using a wireless router, disconnecting the router an connecting directly via ethernet also fixes the problem.

I'm also suffering from the socket closed problem. Everything ran fine until Dominion came out, but shortly after this the problem began manifesting itself. My observations on the issue so far:
- Running a streaming app (most effective seems to be Ping Plotter tracing to the Eve server) seems to alleviate the issue to some degree, although not completely fixing it.
- Running two clients (playing with an alt on single machine) seems to aggravate the problem, causing very frequent disconnects.
- The problem becomes evident most often when lots of data needs to be transferred between the client and the server. For example, working the market in station or jumping a gate in space. Possibly the client needs a response from the server at these occasions and cannot continue if the response timeouts.
- There seems to be a very bad server on the route to the Eve server just a few hops in front of it. The server is named linx.redbus.telecity.net (or something similar. Can't remember, but I do have Ping Plotter screens if needed). This server seems to have 70% packet loss (for pings at least).
I just found out that my ISP has been "upgrading" my Internet connection in December and this may have caused my connections to be rerouted to Eve server through the bad server. Could be totally irrelevant here. I don't know.
What I do know is that the game is pretty much unplayable with the disconnects and I'm not renewing my subscriptions if I can't find a solution to the problem. =( ______________________
