I was wondering what mechanism determines what storyline agent you get assigned when doing missions for a specific agent. Can you somehow influence this process so that you would get one nearby and from the corporation of your choice?
Example: I tried running missions for an agent that had a storyline agent of the same corporation only one jump away. I figured I'd get to use that one. Instead I was getting storyline missions from an agent five jumps away from a different agent.

The nearest storyline agent that belongs to the faction you're working for is the one you get, provided you don't already have a mission from them in your journal.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I think it's random based on a certain radius from where you're stationed. The whole point of storylines is to increase your faction standing (and I think to give you familiarity with other corps within your faction), so it really doesn't matter which corp the agent belongs to. Your faction standing determines your baseline access to all the corps within a faction.

It does actually matter what corp the agents belong to. Why? Because next to a faction standings boost they also give a pretty nice corp standings boost. That one kinda goes to waste if the agent belongs to some random corp that you're never going to run missions for. This was my reason for asking.

tbvh thats kinda the point. the storyline agent gives you faction boosts but it also gives huge corp boosts. while you CAN search out storyline agents and try to find the agent who gives them as a referal you will find that most storyline agents are for the tech schools and the noob corps (center for advanced studies etc.)
if they were in every corp then you could seriously abuse the system and gain standings at a higher rat . . .
http://www.eve-agents.com/ this is worth checking.

This ^^
Is it possible to loose standing with a storyline agent by not accepting missions? If you do will a different storyline agent give you your storyline offers?

No

Yes. Since a single storyline agent can only offer one mission, it'll pick the next closest one if you get another offer.

Not quite true.
I've run missions in a station that had both the Level IV agent I was working for AND a storyline agent for the same division.
My assigned storyline agent was for a different corp, two jumps away, who worked for a DIFFERENT division (I was doing CN Security division missions, the storyline agent was a Persukone Personnel agent).
Go figure.

it has nothing to do with division...
I think I saw a storyline agent in a station that didnt belong to the corp/faction that the station was owned by. would be interested in knowing where, if you wouldn't mind saying what station it was.
