I know I am a bit... distracted at times, but not so much that I am unable to use the jumpgates. The thing is that I am too good at it, and I have several times overshot my way/checkpoints, sometimes by many systems. This is something the Auto-pilot beats me at, it never misses to stop at the correct system. It also gives you the handy message that you are in fact where you intended to be, you only need to remember what you intended to do.
What I am requesting, of sorts, is a message, possibly the same that Aura usually gives us, that I have reached a way/checkpoint. Having, due to poor short-term memory (at times), to pop in and out of map view every so often grows tedious, especially on 30+ jump journeys.
While we're talking about way/checkpoints. Can we unify under one name for them? Aura and the system calls them checkpoints, when planning your route, with right-clicks or in map view, they are called waypoints.

I would like the 'Autopilot Disabled: Waypoint Reached' message supplemented by 'Waypoint Reached' if AP is already disabled... Guess it shouldnt' be too hard to implement.

Honestly, how do you over shoot a destination when there are no more yellow gates in your overview? Suspecting that the thread is a troll... ------------------------------------

You've never set up more than one waypoint in the autopilot?

Simple solution...set destinations instead of waypoints and you will reach your location and not overshoot it. You don't need new functions, you just need to learn how to effectively use what tools you already have. ------------------------------------

you have never needed to pick up rare t2 materials from all over a region, have you?
you set all the waypoints, optimise it, then set the home point. this can make a difference of up to 15 jumps, im my experience.

Nah, NightF0x is a nub that's hardly played much of the game. He likes to poo poo everyone's sugestions for no reason, and lives to salvage wrecks other people supply.
It's a good suggestion. I've often wondered why it was never implemented. I never fly on AP, but I do set up waypoints for navigation. No reason it shouldn't be able to be set to tell you when you reach a waypoint, even if you never activate the AP.

There is a setting in the map browser to have your ship stop at each waypoint even with autopilot on. the autopilot simply shuts off when a waypoint is reached.

Edited by: Verys on 01/04/2009 08:10:37 I am not a frequent user of the waypoint system and have only used it so far to make my autopilot route somewhat longer when "travelling" through low-sec
But I feel this would be a nice addition.
And yes why do they name it differently in two screens, I guess it must be a typo and suggest that you make a bug report of it.

Nice to see there is some support for my idea.
I am indeed talking of when you have several way/checkpoints. I'm sometimes running courier contracts when I'm feeling bored, and just keeping track of what goes where can be hard enough. Having the message from the ship's onboard computer that you have reached a way/checkpoint you have set in its memory isn't implausible.

(First off, I can't resist, it's in structure) Originally by: Jackie Cross This is something the Auto-pilot beats me at, it never misses to stop at the correct system.
Yeah, it's like a computer or something.
(Now on to the waypoint reached idea ...)
I can see how that could be helpfull in some situations. The thing is, when using the APs route, but not using the AP to control the ship, it's more like setting up a GPS route with multiple waypoints. As soon as you get close to a waypoint it points you to the next location.
If I'm flying about, picking up a bunch of stuff, I fly with the Assets window showing system assets. Something shows up there, I know, probably, that a waypoints been reached. (This is the only instance where I fly with multiple waypoints.)
(tl;dr - useful idea, not important though, IMO)
