From the info on them they seem to be a glorified ship that cloaks. Is there any advantage beyond that? For example do they have a more advanced scanner setup or ability to warp to specific points in a system? I heard they will be able to warp to anything that they pick up on the scanner although I haven't seen this implemented. I think if that is the plan they need to nerf that, but better ability to pinpoint off scanner targets would be nice. Any info would be appreciated.

black ops frigates will be the ones that have better sensors
The real advantage of covert ops ships is the fact that they can warp cloaked, which makes them immensfully useful in PVP, especially to a blasterthon fleet.
Not to mention, they make great EW sensor dampening/tracking disrupting ships.

From what ive seen covert ops are normally used as warpin points, dropping a bunch of gankageddons and blasterthons on scorps.
They are also extremely good at scouting large fleet.
Given the price on covert ops cloaks and the fragility of the ships i wouldnt like to engage anything.
While their abilities are very useful, the situations to use them dont occur often.
Its the kind of thing to trainup an alt for, you need 0 skills apart from those for covert friggies and cloaks, and you can park him near a hotspot till hes needed. Mostly harmless |

Frigate lvl5 Electronics lvl5 Electronics upgrades lvl5 cloaking lvl4
that's approximately 1.5m skill points needed to use one, i wouldn't call that 'needing 0 skills' to use one
not to mention that you better train up covert ops frigate to lvl4 if you want to free up enough cpu to use other modules on it

Devs have said on numerous occasions that there are NO plans to implement the ability to simply 'warp to..' an item on the scanner. Such a thing would devestate our current notion of the vastness of space, Eve hide-n-seek, safespots, and PVP.
Covert Ops frigs warp at 13.5au/sec and with the covert ops cloak, they can warp while cloaked.
The one I have has 5 mid-slots, which makes it great for EW work.
Beyond that, they're like regular frigs -- and just as fragile.

if your corp has cash to blow, 1 MWD 4 7.5k warp scrams without equiping a covert ops cloak. Good catch frig.
