Here's an idea: We should go to Wwise website and send them a message, telling them how their product isn't working properly in EVE. I'm sure they will be very motivated to fix this.
I'm about to do that right now too.

I have had to disable sound since apocrypha since its so fubar. Constantly getting the popped noises and distortion. Random volumes, irritatingly loud in station noises, etc.
Infact please, please, pretty please give us an option to disable in station background noise! |

i like the motion from ccp to actually overhaul the old sounds.
the current implementation however is horrible :(

Also, whenever I take any hull damage or if I'm using the scanner and have the solar system map open, all I can hear is my speakers going "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep"... --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? WTF? These forums suck CCP, fix 'em or get something better... I'm tired of reading Khraunus' sig every single time I read one of his |

The crackling can be a bit tricky when you're pumping out 500 watts (rms).

Funnily enough, I just spent about 10 minutes trying to diagnose why the left channel of my speakers were fine but my front and right channels were crackling like a bastard. And not just EVE sounds. Sounds from VLC, YouTube, anything.
Then I remembered I'd recently opened the map in-game and had had the same problems on my laptop (which I thought was just my crappy 4 year old laptop). Turned EVE off, instantly the crackle disappears. Load it back up without opening the map, all is well.
It only ever seems to happen when I toggle between ship/system/galaxy maps. ---

Happens a lot when I open the map and a lot of the time weapon sounds are missing.
I found turning off the ingame speech option helped.

Often while in the map one of my channels will go mute with a pop.
Probably wouldn't bother most people too much, but for someone who was deaf in one ear most of their life, it's quite jarring to hear that ear go mute like that (I use headphones). It actually gives me vertigo, I've nearly fallen out of my chair twice.
Please fix! I'm not sure why stereo is so hard to get right...
Besides, my sound card is supposed to be doing crossover (audigy 2 in 'headphones' mode), which it isn't when I play EVE. Odd, this means that EVE is overriding a driver setting...
BAD! You NEED low frequency mixing between channels, it sounds horridly artificial without that.
Besides - keep your fingers out of the drivers! If you need to touch that, you're doing it wrong! The only thing EVE should need to alter is mixer levels, if that. Why is it touching anything else? |

Sound in EVE has been broken since 2003. Why do you think it is priority now, 6 years later? |

That's funny, back in '08 when I played last I don't remember hearing or hearing of any sound issues.

You right I just checked my driver settings, EVE is the only game that has decided my earphones are not plugged in and defaulted to 2.1 (I'm 5.1 anyway)

Originally by: CCP Baldur Most of the issues that have been discussed here have either been dealt with (in release 1.1) or are being fixed now and will be released next month. [cut] We will shortly do a special Sound blog which should help us all a lot.
Going to bump this. That was 27th april. Sound blog. Coming or missed it? Do not see this on the first 3 pages of EIP. Still a number of issues remaining, of particular note is the clicking/thumping on entering warp (like when you switch on a set of desktop speakers that thumps the speakers when the caps charge at poweron). Reproduceable, though it is a bit hard to put numbers on how close/distant the camera needs to be to trigger it. There appears to be a "touchy" distance where it will happen.

True. But it should not even touch mixing levels. There are directsound controls that it should be using, not tinkering with master volume and wave volume (which it isn't, on this computer at least).

Originally by: Neutrino Sunset And for crying out loud let us turn the station sounds off, that God awful chanting in the Amarr stations makes me want to kill myself/someone.
Really? I just want to put whoever is responsible for not being able to mute that to the sword and throw them in Hekla (Icelanders know what that is...). Preferably with a catapult. At least my keyboard has a set of media buttons, including a mute one. It gets a lot of use, since the "load station environment" set to off does apparently not include the stations audio environment (aka mental hospital badly amplified and heard through a mile and a half of concrete highwaytunnel).

I have been playing for around five years, I solved the problem by just turning the sound off, in fleet battles sound creates lag and it makes it hard/near impossible too hear the FC/targetcaller, besides in space no one can hear you scream
But youre right it should be fixed.

A bit. I remember EVE + WinAmp causing massive crashes even if you had all of EVE's audio off. I didn't have the weird problems of silence at point blank range I do now though.
Lets be honest, EVE's sound system has been somewhat broken for ages. Only now it's exceptionally broken.

That was before the 'improvements'. Anyway, CCP bought a fancy sound editor/API thingie and forgot that you actually have to know your stuff when using it and failed at implementing it properly. So bets are on when they finally figure out how it works and they implement it properly for those who don't turn off the sound anyway. |

My really old tube Fender Twin amp (CBS era, when they were more shoddily made) is the only comparison I can make to Eve sound, but with Eve I can't play a guitar overly loud to compensate. |

The sound problems are seriously making scanning actually painful. I'll drop a probe, open the Map and shortly afterwards hear a nasty pop in one speaker followed by muted/no sound from one side.
I close the map and spin my ship and I get another nasty pop (or several) that restores the sound.
This occurs every time I scan, and sometimes just when several sounds are happening at the same time.
Oh, and it's basically pot luck whether I'll hear my tachyons firing even if I'm zoomed in on the ship. Without even moving the camera I'll hear between 0 and 4 of them each time they fire, randomly.
How can this even pass basic testing? |
