How would you outfit them? What would be the best roles to use them in?
Or would you choose another class of frigate for PVP? Perhaps a Rifter?
Feel free to ramble about frigates and pvp, I am trying to learn as much as I can about this topic.
Thx

Edited by: Meldryn Mawr on 24/08/2004 17:58:50 i used to use a kessie for PvP when you could still fit cruise. use 4x standard launchers with bloodclaws (carry some FoFs just in case). warp scrambler and a mwd in mids, against frigs it might be better to fit a webber instead, but that leaves you vulnerable to being webbed too. fitting the third medslot is tough due to limited fitting resources, maybe but some CPU/RCU/Micro Aux and see if you can fit a sensor damper. else fit cap relays if you need them or overdives in the lows. you could always use rockets which deal very similar damage but are a lot easier to fit to make use of the third med a bit better, but you dont get FoF rockets :(
edit: to cover stuff other than kessies: a lot of frigs have uses in PvP, rifter is supposed to be good, but its slightly limited with only 2 meds (1 effectively seeing as you need a MWD). i quite like the vigil but have never actually used it as a straight up combat ship (more as a scout/capture frig). griffin is quite good for EW, but you wont fit many weapons as well as decent EW gear IIRC (been a while since i used it). other frigs are probly good too, but these are ones i like/have used. not too keen on merlin tbh. imicus is supposed to be good cos of the drone bay too.

I use following setup:
Kestrel 4x rocket launcher thorn rockets mwd web 7.5km scrambler 200mm nano-something plating small armor rep
With this setup you can stand against a cruiser as a support ship. Its also excellent against other 'melee' frigs :) Its no use against 2mwd crow though :)
I took guristas caracal down with this setup and a bb in pvp down to structure:)
Its a good setup, when you'll practice to use it. It has some disadvantages, like small cap, limited range and speed of rockets and so on :) But with the platings you yield a HP similar to a ceptor ;] -- Portfolio (currently .PL only) - nestor.art.pl

IMHO interceptors kick ass.
But i would prolly use a kessy, they r amazing dmg dealers in 1V1.
A merlin in a fleet of other ships can do alot of dmg too with its decent med slots and good high slots ----------------------------------------

Howdy Peircer, long time no see. Lets see here, Kestrels are always good for the missile boating part. Even light missiles do good damage now. Merlins are the 800 pound gurilla of frigates in pvp, they can take insane damage for a frig with good skills. Rifters are fun for hit and run tactics in groups, limited by the amount of mid slots. Punisher is a good tanking option with decent firepower. And a lot of people like the tristan and vigil.
Kestrels are easy to set up, there are quite a few good standard setups for them that are easy to fit. Since missile boats aren't all that PG intesnive, anyone with engineering 4 or 5 shouldn't have a problem fitting them.
My favorite merlin setup is this: hi 2x Light Neutron Blasters (named use two less pg each) 2x Rocket Launcher (standard launchers if using named blasters)
mid 10mn AB/1mn MWD 7.5km warp scrambler stasis web
lo 2x micro aux, or if using MWD whatever you need to get the reactor recharge rate to the sweet spot.
Keep in mind that that particular setup takes engineering 5 and uses all available PG. I can cut down interceptors in a matter of seconds with that setup, and it has good dot and survivability for tackling larger ships. Not to mention the optimal range bonus from the ship makes it possible to stay out of large smartbomb range while using blasters with the right ammo.
Far as the rifter goes]
hi 3x250mm Light artillery 1x standard ML mi 1mn mwd stasis web or warp scrambler lo 2x cap power relay
Hits hard, and is also very hard to hit. Mostly immune to nosferatu since the weapons don't use energy.
