Originally I thought the Command Ships that required logistic skills to fly were superior logistic skills. But after looking closer at both types of ships appears that probably fill different roles. The logistics ships are mainly to transfer cap and shields/armour. The Command Ships have more warfare link modules and more firepower but less direct support to other ships in your gang.

You just answered your question yourself.
Command ships give 'passive' boosts to everyone below them in the fleet, while logistics repair shield/armor and transfer cap. _________________________

You don't need a Command Ship for the 'passive' bonus' that are given when you are squad booster.
But yer, OP answered himself Norrin Ellis > What?! Boobs aren't inappropriate! They feed children! For God's sake, think of the children!

Ok, thanks for confirming what I had thought. I wasn't sure if I was missing something and with the number of variables that are in eve, overlooking something is easy to do.

Command ships (well, field at least) sport a massive tank as well, so they fill that role in PVE. |

I'm looking to run in a small 3 person gang for PvE. When you say I don't need the fleet Command Ship for the "passive" is that because there is no bonus is I'm the squad booster? Or is it just because the passive bonus is only affecting only two people the benefit of a logistic ship in this situation are greater?

The leadership skills (Leadership V, Skirmish Warfare V, Information Warfare V, Siege Warfare V) are the 'buffs' that work regardless of what ship you are in. As long as you are in a command position in the fleet with the proper skills (Leadership V to command full squad) those buffs will be passed down to each member of the squad.
The specialization skills of those above referenced skills come into play when you are in a Command ship using Gang Links as they improve the effects from the gang links.

Command Ship = fleet wide buffs! Logistic Ship = Heals and Mana OR single target buffs!
Both serve totally different purposes. You generally need a lot more people in fleet to justify the use of a dedicated buff toon, whereas pure healers are appreciated almost no matter what.

Ok, cool, so for a small PvE gang a logistic ship is the way to go. If I move into larger scale operations then a Fleet Commandship may be superior.

Thankfully the difference between EVE/WoW are larger than trivial terminology to some of the few common game mechanics.
