I've never found a good use for these missiles. I'm wondering if anyone else has? Low damage seems to be their only useful attribute.
I'm wondering if maybe they could be connected to the pending Stealth Bomber changes. I'd love to have fire and forget missiles so I could recloak.. could they maybe work like that with some kind of advanced targeting system and Passive Targeters?
Just a thought.

Currently, FoF missiles are just broken. The point of them is that you don't need to lock to attack, but they haven't been updated in so long that they just don't work. I was trying out a FoF Tengu the other day and the missiles kept choosing to hit drones that were inactive over drones that were attacking me, or even the ship launching drones.
Basically change them to have the same aggresion AI as drones do (when drones are working) and they'd be very useful. A good counter to ECM.

Edited by: Little Fistter on 09/04/2009 21:58:48 I, too, must attest that this is a failed damage system.
Given the real world evidence that FOF technology does not need to reduce the destructive force of a payload, I can see no reason behind having FOF systems deliver an inferior payload.
FoF has a real disadvantage over targeted missles, in that they often go to disparate targets andd rarely focus fire to any good effect.
Adding to that disadvantage by providing minor damage makes carrying FoF ordinance a waste of ammo space.
FURTHER...
Given the server-side benefit of inducing pilots to explore Wormhole Space, giving FoF's a boost might encourage more pilots to try going out there to Wormhole Space.
Also, FoF's OUGHT TO Go FURTHER and maybe FASTER...
Assuming you really want people to use them.
Sigh. As much as I hope that the devs might actually care about what we want, in the end, they do what the boss tells them. Would happy players mean more money for CCP? Prolly not.
Shame, too. This game would really rock with a million subscribers.

its not RL, i like the idea of better FoF, but to use Fof and giving them the same stats as a regular missile that would render caldari and other missile ships totaly inmune to ecm... i think thats a little unbalanced

I dont quite see how they would be immune to ECM. you launch your 6 FoF missiles from a raven while jammed, theres no guarantee it will hit the same person, let alone always a hostile target instead of that gangmate a few km away.
i kind of consider launching FoFs in that situation a last ditch effort.

fof missiles should have targeting priority on things with target painters on them.

anyone tried them in stacked launchers? do they focus fire when they are staked? i would assume so.

Needed Changes:
1) Slower launching speed(penalty to launcher RoF upon loading them), Longer Flight time on all missiles(out to ECM ranges) but slightly increased damage versus regular version. 2) Volume changes also, should be able to load more of them 3) Higher mineral cost, also. 4) Targeting AI continues to engage Drones first, fix it to kill Large to small, T2-T1? 5) Ship targeting priority ECMing to EWAR to Damage dealing ships. DESPITE RANGE?
That way using them against ECM will rattle the ECM more quickly, but he gets time to warp knowing he's been made obsolete.
If ECM leaves, switch back to regular and enjoy the control of firing what you want when. As FoF had higher volley, but regular are higher DoT.
An idea for all missiles warfare, allow Launchers to fire missiles that are one class down from their original launchclass. Have 2 launch classes I can see, Unguided and Guided. This adds flexibility that should put more of them into uncertain situations with more confidence, maybe even more solo Caldari flying.
Eg. Torp Raven reloads all Torp launchers with Heavy Assault Missiles to try and add dps to a smaller sig radius target. Add a penalty to the launchers using inefficient missile loadouts.
RP-wise, call it a breakthrough in Caldari military thinking.
Maybe they can actually beat my Gallente ships back...stale, crusty, crude, jam-spewing, space Legos.

Of course they do. It's only one missile when they're grouped.
Even if they weren't grouped they'd all hit the same target if fired at the same time. They always go for the closest valid target.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |
