Earth's magnetic poles are not stationary - every year they move a significant distance.

That is actually a rather important peice of information. If a pole inversion occur its going to **** over ever single piece of navigational equipment At which point it will collapse our biggest line of defense from charged solar particles, killing us all in a span of weeks

Actually, if you click the link it shows that Earth's magnetic field does not collapse - it just gets really complicated. It still protects us from solar wind.
Quote: Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time--contrary to popular belief--the magnetic field does not vanish. "It just gets more complicated," says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth's surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it's still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.
The only consequence will be that magnetic compasses will fail. However, we have GPS systems which can be used for navigation systems these days.
Next piece of useless trivia - You can not lick your elbow.
...
You just tried to lick your elbow, didn't you?
In all actuality, some people CAN lick their elbow. The interesting thing is that an individual will have a high chance of attempting to lick their elbow after being told that they can not (for the first time and when told over the internet).

Only once. After that your lawn is dead.
Seriously, what in the world makes you think that a used petroleum product loaded with heavy metals and various other thermally derived compounds would EVER be good for your lawn?
Now, there IS the "crude oil in fertilizer" myth that has been propagated around the internet for some time. But it's absolute bunkum and rather stupid if you give it any serious thought.
Now, for my own bit of trivia: It is possible to clap with one hand using no other surface other than the surface of that single hand, and WITHOUT the use of ANY of the muscles in that same hand! Have fun trying that one out. Yes it is possible, I can do it. Fix the Wardec System! Upgrade the Probing System! |

because the fingers don't have muscles, they have tendons only, so, so long as you only move your fingers and not your hand, you're okay.

The weird thing is after an inversion, compasses will read backwards, which shouldn't be a problem as now you just read the white arm as north and not the red arm. Also some animals will have problems with navigation.

However, those tendons are attached to muscles in the hand.

Link broken. There are some muscles in the hand, but I believe they are mostly for touching thumb to pinky and left/right motion of fingers. Gripping strength, like used when clapping with one hand, comes from the forearm. I don't know about you, but I can actually see at least one tendon moving considerable distances (~1.5") when opening and closing my hand. In before Ralara. |

Here is a much better link that has all the muscles with origin, insertion, innervation, and blood supply.
Yes, the smaller fine motor muscles are located in the hand and the muscles that control gross hand movement are located in the forearm, but your quote was unclear and hinted towards all muscles that move the fingers originated in the forearm.
EDIT: Actually to be correct most of the muscles that originate in the forearm typically move the wrist in the 6 motions that occurs there and most muscles that affect finger movement actually originate in the bones distal of the wrist joint (carpals) and span the hand and the tendons run up the digits and insert at the appropriate joint attachment. END EDIT
Also there are more muscles in the hand then you expect, that is why that some orthopedics specialize in the hand and some even go further and specialize in the thumb since it is so integral in opposition.

Need more useless trivia!
The sky is not really blue. It only appears blue to us because our eyes are more sensitive to blue light than violet light. So the color of the sky is actually violet (or possibly even ultra-violet presuming that the ozone layer doesn't screen too much of it out). This is thanks to the effects of Rayleigh Scattering - the higher the frequency the photon, the more likely that it will be "scattered" by the atmosphere.

Quantum tunneling has a lot of real world implications. It is the cause of a large amount of power drain in large scale integrated electronics, is a part of field emissions important to flash memory and even plays an important role in some biological processes involving enzymes.
