Hey,
I spend a lot of time trading with my main in Jita. I have Accounting and Broker's Relations at level 5. Social skill also at level 5.
But my standings are all neutral to everyone. I was thinking of buying a pre-made corporation with Caldary standing 7. Which costs about 250M.
I am wondering how much difference would this make regarding to sale taxes (I would use corp wallet of course)? And how long would it take to "earn" back this 250M?
So if anyone did some calculations in the past, or point me in the right direction - where to get this information I would be very grateful.
Thanks!

Someone correct me if I am wrong. but the standings are based on the people in the corp. So this will change over a few days or night if you buy the corp and take control of it. The corp standings will be based on your standing.

Apparently standings are calculated every 7 days. However characters with neutral standings (all 0.0) are excluded, the ones who never completed any missions etc... So if you are alone in such corp, with all 0.0 standings, then they should not change at all.

Even if the standings of the corporation do not change, and they would not in the above circumstance, it would benefit you not at all. All orders, and their associated fees, are toon centric. Skills and standings of the toon determine all things.
The only thing that corporate as opposed to personal setting on orders changes, is where the isk (& product) flows.

Ah, too bad. Thought that corporate wallet would take corp standings into play.
Thanks.

Here's a place you can chat to get such answers regularly. Well amongst all the other chatter. (The noise to signal ratio can be quite high - which is why it is a good place!!!)

Corp standings would not help your trader alt in the least (and I sell corps :P )
Folks buy corps to mount POSs in empire systems. To a lesser degree they can also help with jump clones, but since there are free jump clone services it would be very rare to pay 200+ mil for a corp just for this.
If you move a LOT of isk through your alt, it might be worth paying someone to run missions for your standing. But these services can run over a billion isk, the impact to your broker fees wouldn't be worth it unless you literally move trillions.

I thought standings only affected broker fees and not sale taxes? Correct me if I'm wrong.

No correction necessary. Your Accounting skill level modifies the amount of Sales Tax you pay on both Market Orders and Contract offers (1% û 0.1% + AccountingSkillLevel), and there are two different formulae for Market Order Broker Fees and Broker Fees on Contracts.

And having recently dealt with corp standings calculations first-hand (i.e. within the last month), here is how they work: At *every* downtime, average the *raw* faction standings for every *current* corp member who has been in corp for the previous 6 downtimes *and* who has any standing with the faction (i.e. non-null, this is *not* the same as zero standing).
So if you (Megan Aven) have null standing with Caldari State, as soon as the corp founder left the corp, at the next downtime the corp's Caldari State standing would revert from 7.0+ to null (assuming you're the sole member). That would be a fairly expensive lesson (250M).

While I'm unsure in Megan's case, it is possible she was buying a high standings char which was the ceo of the solo corp .. thus if she joined herself in the corp, her neutral char would not lower corp standings. But all moot since market is toon centric.

To answer your question from another standpoint, with the best possible standings you'll save yourself another 0.5% on broker's fees for an order. In other words, 5 million per 1 billion spent. Its not that big of a deal, especially if you're small volume, but as you get into larger volume and your definition of an acceptable margin changes, it's nice to have. ------------- Goonfleet Investment Banking - Bringing you the spoils of Delve!

If you're a serious trader than it's extremely worthwhile to get standing. If you are doing small scale stuff don't bother.
However, the first several points of standing is much faster to gain than the last several, so it's a bit silly not to run a few missions and get yourself at least 2-3 corp standing, heck I'd say it's worth getting 7-8 corp standing at least and 2-3 faction... doesn't take too much time and you'll get money from the missions plus the standing may come in handy for other purposes down the road.
