.... AND KEPT YOUR SHIP?
Today, a fleet of around 20-25 flashy pirates were gatecamping at the Nourv. gate in Tama. I jumped right into it with my Thrasher carrying the advanced learning skillbooks (18 mil value, not much but I didn't want to make the 5 jumps again just for the skillbooks...). A couple had me targeted as I was aligning to the station, but I got to warp away!
It was kinda scary, though - it was my first gatecamp experience as the victim/prey.

KBP- in Prov, on the way home from a roam. Bubbles everywhere, damn near every sub-cap shipclass in the game represented and approx 30 on gate.
I land on the edge of a bubble, in a pod, burn out of it and warp to a safe

When I was a noob I jumped into a system near rancer and lo, gatecamp. I figured my ishkur could warp before they could lock me no problem. WRONG. Remote sensor boosted HAC > me. Had an AB on it since it was fit for PVE, but I still managed to burn back to the gate and jump out... at less than half structure. I was pretty happy.

Jumping into M-0 during MAX, or one of the times I was scouting and jumped into 250 or so GBCers probably takes it. Jumping into HED with DDs already set off isn't even that bad compared. I can't seem to lose ships to gatecamps though, too religious with BMs and good cloaky practice.

A while back when we finished some op or another, I was in my Arazu (in a very nice, er- expensive- fit), and after things broke up I set an autopilot destination to another system fairly distant, as we were moving to another contract area. I was jawing on Vent with my corpmates, doing the engage-warp, cloak, arrive on gate, jump, repeat thing. Didn't pay much attention to the route I'd chosen. We had been in Empire for the previous contract, no 0.0 work.
And then I hit jump, session changed and my stomach dropped to my balls as I saw not one, not two, but (I think) five bubbles on the gate, mostly sling bubbles with one on the gate itself, which of course I was smack in the middle of. I fought down the panic and looked at the system.
HED-GP.
And there were a lot of people there. To be honest I don't recall the specifics (I had been drinking somewhat heavily that evening) of who/what was there, but I very distinctly remember saying "Oh ****, I just jumped into HED-GP!" Followed by explosions of laughter on Vent at my idiocy.
Now the choice was, burn back or go on? Going on meant two other 0.0 regions on the way, but was about twice as fast given how far I'd come. I burned out of the bubble under cloak, avoiding the pilots trying to find/decloak me, and in the end, made it back to Empire in one piece.

I remember that!
My biggest camp was while I fly flying my interceptor.
We were on contract with TCF and weren't having too much luck finding anything more than the occasional straggler so our gang waited while I scouted out some low-sec systems close to Nonni. There's on system there that's a dead end, and we had seen a few war targets logged in around that area so that would be my destination.
As I made my way through Aunenen and the other systems, I noticed increasing amounts of TCF in local. First 1, then 3, then 4 etc. There were 6 or so in the system before my destination.
I jumped in, and I'm looking at local. 46 pilots. I quickly scroll through the list. I am the only person on that list who does not have a red star. I also very quickly notice that everyone who is in system, is also sitting on the gate. The same one I'm about to decloak at.
I let out an "oh ****" over vent, and everyone goes quiet to find out what happens next.
In my haste, I click to reapproach and hit my MWD. I bounce off the gate, and am frantically clicking approach and jump as parts of the enemy fleet begin to blink with orange outlines.
I start taking damage, and with low armour on my Raptor I manage to jump out. The TCF I'd previously seen in the various systems before had setup camps on each of their gates for me, so I flew through as quickly as possible and managed to make it back to our temporary base before I took my shaking self to grab a few beers -_-

Blockade runners are one type of T2 industrial (the other being Transport Ships). Blockade Runners tend to be fast-aligning, have moderate cargo (around 6-7K) and can use covert ops cloaking devices, making them damn near as hard to catch as covops or cloaky recons. The other T2 industrial is the Transport Ship, which is able to carry much more cargo and has a much better tank, but is really not very useful in 0.0 due to bubbles. In empire, they're made of awesome because it's pretty impractical to suicide gank one.

Edited by: Ralara on 21/04/2009 04:28:02 Back when I was in Tri and BoB was invading the North (start of Max I think) I was in MM space trying to get out. I hadn't read any of the intel channels and was in a buzzard - HG crystals, no cargo.
Jumped into a system - 300 in local, about 10-20 large bubbles around the gate and hundreds of ships, fighters and drones were on the gate.
I was sure I was dead. But I tried to get out. Sure enough, after about 15 minutes of manually flying around, I got out and warped to 0 to the outbound.
Landed smack on the edge of a similar camp on the other side of the gate -.-
Got through it though, slowly. This one was more hairy. Stupid Morsus Mihi!
As I jumped out and session changed, I found I was in ANOTHER CAMP, this time by BoB.
Same deal.
But I got through it \o/ 45 minutes of travelling and I was almost free.
Warped to the next gate and got dragged 70km off by a small bubble. Only about 10 ships this time. I landed 2800 meters from a ship waiting to decloak people. Slow boated back to to the gate. This was a low sec gate \o/
Got through. Saved my implants and dodged about 450 people in total in 4 separate camps.
Fun times. --

I've been pootling about low sec much more since I got my cov-ops cloak but before that I jumped my Magnate in to a medium size fleet sat on the gate, uhhh lets see what we have here... about 50 sparkling (sensor boosting) frigs and cruisers and a couple of BS all sat on the gate. I just crossed my fingers they were about to jump. I don't mind losing ships but it's still quite an unnerving experience to think this could be it.. Thankfully they all jumped out after about 20 seconds allowing me to gtfo with no problems.
With a cov-ops it's cake. Going to have to try 0.0 now ^_____^

In summary, after 2 minutes trying to get to the gate, then another 2 minutes of self destruct countdown, I still had 30% armor (cuz the united are skilled pee vee peeers) and went boom and lol'ed the whole way to Amarr.

There were about 15 flash reds on gate... knowing I wouldn't be able to warp out I pressed approach on the gate and hurried my way back with my mwd on.

This is way back in the day. Perhaps 3 years our alliance fleet of 150-200 ships was locked out of EC-P8R. Guarding the gate in EC-P8R was at least a 200 man strong fleet on the gate at all times. But this wasn't the crazy part. Inside EC-P8R, 25 KM from the gate, there were literally bubbles overlapping in a 360 degree sphere!
We were all alligned in a convy to jump to the gate to get in. Ships clustered everywhere. When zoomed out it look like a tube that spanned 500km. After 1.5 hours of waiting the FC said "Anyone who doesn't want to lose their ship, leave now. The rest of you, we're going in. Do not engage the enemy. Instead shoot the bubbles that would keep you from warping to the first planet. Warp there on the first oppertunity." We were fleet warped to the gate and all jumped immediately. The gate didn't just fire. It looked like a constant laser for a good 10 seconds. I can only imagine what the enemy was thinking on the other side.
I load up in my raven on the other side and it is a tense 20+ seconds as we wait for our whole fleet loaded the grid. The order went out to clear the road. And that is what we did. Bubbles popped as the blackbirds and Scorpions jammed the intercepters and tacklers. We never bothered tallying up our losses but it was estimated that 95% of our fleet made it through the blockade. My Raven made it through as well.
Once through the blockade our fleet did well to repel the enemy capital ships and kept them from taking out all of our POS's so we didn't lose soveregnty. This was the most majestic event I have ever experienced in EVE.

Most dangerous gatecamps are not biggest, although it can be awesome to see dozens of ships waiting for you to uncloak. However, gatecamps which utilize intel well, have skilled decloakers and enough bubblers, scramblers and instant damage are best/worst against small groups/soloers. Against fleets "DD gatecamp" is probably bad news. :)

A six months ago or so, I think I was going from Bleak Lands to somewhere and didn't realize I was in Providence at first and we're very red to CVA. When I did realize where I was, I hadn't any choice but to continue. I figured in a covops I'd be fine. I couldn't tell you what system I was in, but I jumped in, warped to the next gate, and watched local spike up by about 40 pilots. There were three gates in system and CVA had them covered with inties, HICs, recons, and kitchen sinks in a matter of seconds. I come out of warp on a HIC bubble at my exit gate and see red everywhere.
There are inties burning around everywhere, I can't stay at the gate. So I warp back to a moon and wait a bit to see if things will clear. Nope. 50 local, 60 local, 70 local... I'm needed on an op, about 10 jumps away and stuck in system with Rabid Amarrians everywhere.
After about 20 minutes of this, I pick the gate with the fewest HICs on it (only 3) and warp in at 100, praying I don't bump uglies with the nearest interceptor when I land. And my luck holds, I'm far enough not to get sucked into the bubble. Since they don't have any long-range stuff, I slowboat it out of the flightpath and up above the gate at about 120km, then decloak and run straight away from the gate on MWD hoping for the inties to chase me. They do, except one. I recloak at just barely outside warp range and warp to the gate at 0. HIC stops me at 11km from the gate, decloak, MWD, shield gone, 2.7km, webbed, armor gone, jump range!, jump! OH hell, 6 or 7 jumped with me and I'm still in their space. After that it was running like mad with structure damage for the nearest high sec and finding another gatecamp at the last gate, but no HICs here. CVA chased me the entire way. Once I got into highsec I docked up because I needed a drink.
Corp op was boring as hell by comparison that night, but that's ok cause the journey is more important than the destination, right? ;) |

Edited by: Don ZOLA on 23/04/2009 02:07:01 Couple of years ago i was flying my good ol` jamming scorp and jumped in Rancer. As soon as i loaded my i saw plenty of outlaws around the gate, mostly in battleships and with one of the first motherships in the game at that time. All the names known from the "most wanted list", great eve pirates from the corps as Tundragon, Teddybears and Bone Collectors. Just mentioning their names made the bears shiver!
They had remote sensor boosted tackler (instalocker) scorpion right on the gate obviously remote repped and sensor boosted by the nyx pilot. Out of the sentry range was around 5 tempests, the best snipers back in the days with ridiculous alpha dmg, with couple of more sniping megas right next to them.
For sure the sight which means only one thing to innocent bypassers...the certain and unavoidable death! Luckily for me, I wasnt the innocent one so i just asked for gang invite and got in my position to guard the snipers.
P.S. "Copyright on this joke" is by someone i dont actually remember years ago in a similar topic. It was stronger then me, so i had to make the similar joke also :P

During the Trisurge war I was in RZR, I was scouting a hostile system in my rapier. We needed eyes on a gate I didn't have a bookmark off of so I warped at 100. I found myself much much closer in a bubble and my overview was chock full of hostiles. I paused to look around to see what I should do, as a hac orbiting the gate passed behind me 2,300m. I turned and aligned for a planet and as I moved out of the bubble I counted at least 10 ships less than 3,000m from me. As I warped out I decloaked.

Loving the stories here, I've jumped into a few 60+ man camps and escaping in a Taranis but that isn't anything special, however a few days ago, me and two other friends, 3 of us in Taranis's jumped into KBP, burned for a Lachesis 100k off gate and engaged
My scanner started filling up ( 20 + ) , when they landed I gang warped to a 200k spot off the gate, while most of the gang landed on the lachesis on 0, William DeMeo ( 1 of the guys in my gang ) was tackled by the lachesis
At this moment I was kicking my self for gang warping because we could of stayed behind to kill the lachesis, and we're going to lose william because of my coward decision, but he speed tanked the gang long enough to kill the lachesis, overloaded mwd and and got away in 15% structure, as I was cheering him on vent, it looked epic

i'm travelling from caldari space to minmatarr using shuttle, in the middle of route, jump into rancer system, gate is camp but i can easily warp to outbound, when near gate i saw a megathron, i thought not a real problem there, but when my warp drive stop and ready to jump i realize i'm in pod then next already in a new clone lol, check losses, that mega fitted with smartbomb.
Luckily not from minmatarr space back to caldari, when the cargo filled with bpo and skillboooks. Since then never travel through rancer they killed everything.

1. Region jump from Catch to Immensea into a UNL fleet with carrier/fighter support. This was prior to speed nerf. My phobos got back to the gate in low armor and jumped back through again. Hostile count 80+ 2. 300+ man Ushra-Khan/Star Fraction/Einherjar Rising Fleet in Providence. Together with 300 other fleet members. I ended losing my ship and getting my pod smartbombed by a Nyx mothership.. 3. 500 other instances where I was sure I was going to die, and most of the time did...

One day I decided I'm going to take my hurricane for a spin around low sec and see if there's anything I can kill. I jump from high sec to low sec and there you go, a single flashing brutix on the gate. I couldn't believe my luck and was so happy a target was presented so soon I didn't bother looking at local...I hit approach just as the rest of his flashy friends decide to show up, about 7 or 8 of them. Great, perfect timing. As I'm already in motion towards the brutix warping away would take too long so I try mwding to the gate. Thought I was gonna make it for a second as I was going 700m/s, until I got webbed by just about every one of them and slowed down to a snails pace. I died 3km from the gate :/ --------------------------------------------

By far the most dangerous gatecamp I've ever jumped into are the FS****camps in Tasti. The confidence I gained from pwning those nooblets has surely costed me many ships to people who don't actually suck. Yarr |

When I was new to null-sec (alright, I'm STILL new to null-sec) I ran through, and avoided, the typical camps. A dozen bored people staring at a gate, perhaps with a bubble, perhaps not. Yawn.
I decided to join a corporation. I contacted a few, picked one, and away I went to an office to submit an application. Well. Imagine my surprise when I enter my destination system, my overview loads, and I take a look around...
...I saw no less than 40 PODS at the gate.
Good lord. Welcome to null-sec.

One does not simply go through a gate camp...
On that note, I tend to die. If i jump into a camp or get into a situation looks like i have a 95% chance of death, i try to kill something and take them with me. Usually makes for more fun 9.5/10 times.

Funny you should mention that system...after deciding one day to check out some low/nul-sec systems and having a great time (I'm lying, it was boring really) I decided to find the closest nulsec to my operation area. Lo and behold, that was EC-PBR. So I bought ten Slashers, fit them with ABs, and mosied on over that way. After a bit of a travel, I popped through to the dark side, and right into some disruption bubbles. Didn't expect that at all, and my heart went ka-pitter-put. Lost that first Slasher due to vapor lock in my brain.
It was fun though, and I made it a game, popping through the gate and then seeing if I could burn back before I lost my ship again. Lost two more in the long run, the third due to me trying to dash to the outside of the disruption fields. I made it out of them with my pod though. So I toured the surrounding nulsec systems for awhile before getting bored and heading back to empire. Jumped through two more gates before I hit another camp.
Poofy goes the pod. Good times. I ate a Carebear once...couldn't quit farting rainbows for a month. |

I couldn't really call this a gatecamp, it happened on a gate though :P I was part of a 30 man fleet waiting on a gate for the enemy raiding party to head home from our space (we were camping the only corridor back to their space, there were 2 systems connected to this one). For some reason we did not have a scout in the other system (the one we were not camping), despite numerous requests. And you can guess what happened... fleet we are camping jumps in (about 10 people), throws some bubbles up and immediately a 50-man enemy fleet ops up from the un-watched gate (surprise surprise) and promptly kicks our asses. Not really a gate camp, but the biggest leadership ****up I have seen in eve :P
