Just bear with it, few sums to go through: -
PLEX in the US $19.95. And is quivalent to $27.43 over here. So lets propose for a moment I set up a vpn to the US, create an account for one month (plus setup charge) comes to $19.95. I only need to buy 2.6 plex to break even (at this point).
So, assuming I buy 6 @ $99.99 (special offer) that's $17.28 each, so lets factor in the vpn cost at $6 a month, total saving on 6 plex by not buying in the UK, $11.28. And thats even with the "additional" costs of doing it.
OK so now for the money making venture, I sub for a year, the vpn and EVE. $131.40 + $5 + $72 = $208.40 yearly cost. $104.79 for 6 plex at 17.46 a plex. So I need to sell a minimum of 20.90: at full price: a year; to break even. Now lets save my buddies -ú2 a plex? Minimum sales to break even a year 30.87. And if I were to sell 100 at -ú2 below CCP's price I'd make: $484. |

You'd also have the currency conversion charges levied by your (presumably sterling based) account and I suppose technically you'd have to declare the profits as income to HMRC. |

You can't sell plex, plexs are an in game item and only CCP can sell plexs you would be breaking the EULA. And would risk getting your chars accounts band.
CCP allows people/stores to sell GTCs (Game time Cards) not plexs. You would have to find a way to do that by selling GTCs. Even then I do believe you have to get some sort of license contract or something agreement with CCP to sell. That probably shares some of the profit from the sales in some way. |

I was wondering about this.
Is it against the EULA to swap/trade a plex for a GTC- or x2plex for a GTC.
You could potentially then sell the GTC on for RL currency from isk generated ingame.
As for the income ramifications that this would have on your taxation- is that really any of CCPs business?

@OP: don't forget that you can quite legitimately buy GTCs from US sites for 34.99 USD without any additional costs of any kind nor convoluted strategies like VPNs to avoid paying VAT to CCP (it's those US sites' responsibility to charge VAT if they want to, but almost none of them do), then convert each into 2x PLEX for a cost of ~17.5$ plus the physical time needed to copypaste the codes received via email in the GTC-to-PLEX conversion entry box. Either way, do you really think simply having an USA IP while still paying with an UK bank card will really fool CCP into thinking you're legit ? Why complicate things in a way that touches on or even is a willing RL illegality in which you can directly be blamed for committing it, when you have legitimate alternatives where *if* any blame exists at all, it's not really yours anyway ?
@papamike: yes, it is against the EULA to swap/trade 2x PLEX for a GTC code, it is on the same level as just about any other RMT methodology. The person giving the PLEX and receiving the GTC code could end up being treated as a RMTer and get banned without much extra warning, and people that ever received ISK or goods from him (now that he's been branded a RMTer) that can't be justified as in-game-legitimate purchases risk getting their stuff or equivalent ISK value confiscated and also end up banned if this gets repeated a few times. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T http://eve-search.com/stats/Akita_T |

Or said friends sub using the UK rate (-ú9.99 a month) for around $192.50 a year, with no currency conversion fee.
Or even better, they sub for multiple months dropping that further.

That's because your living conditions are 40% better than here in the US. Maybe CCP is giving us Americans a sympathy price because we are living in the most oppressive society this side of China, and at least in China you are a lot less likely to end up in prison. |
