Hi, sorry if these were answered somewhere else but i looked all over and couldent find anything.
My wife and I are planning to play together, im going to start all over with her, but if we choose different races can one of us travel to the others station and get missions from there without doing alot of faction work? for example if shes Gallente and im Caldari can i travel to her starting area and get missions from her agent at her starting station?
My second questions is pretty in depth and it regards the combat system in EVE. Are there some vid's or alot of info out there somewhere? My first character is a 1.something million skill point Minmitar but i dont think i ever got the hang of it really. This concerns PvE mostly, but id just warp into a mission and then kinda fly around a little bit while i slowly picked them off 1 by 1. I know theres got to be alot more to it than that.
Any help is appreciated, thanks !

#1 - Yes you can go to the other starter station and do the missions IIRC.
#2 - For missions you pretty much have it down, especially for frigates in missions. If you are using guns when you get to the cruiser and battleship sized weapons things can get a little more complicated, as you need to keep an eye on your transversal or angular velocity (see the tracking guide linked in the sticky for info on this) in order to get the most effectiveness from your guns. As for PvP, things can get a little more dicey there, but really the best way to learn this is to join a PvP corp and start pvping, then when you die go over what you did wrong with the more experienced corp members etc. The experienced pvpers will likely give you some pointers and basic instructions before an engagement, and then you can just go from there. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Edited by: Grista on 23/04/2009 18:43:03 The easiest way to do level 1 missions is in a destroyer. Fit small artillery (250mm, cause 280 uses more grid/cpu without a lot of benefit), a web, and an afterburner and kite the hostiles. You'll be out of range of everything except missile ships (those nasty Mercs) when you kill them. For the last mid slot, try a single medium shield extender to give you a buffer.
If you can't afford a Thrasher yet, just continue to muddle through with your Rifter until you can buy one. Also, you'll be able to use your Thrasher in higher level missions to gather loot and salvage wrecks after you've killed everything in your cruiser.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
I mostly didnt want to waste the time and energy of making my character and flying it out to her starting area only to not be able to get any of the starter missions together.

To be 100% honest I am not completely certain that you can still do this. Pre-apoc it was possible to go do all 3 of the starter mission arcs for all 4 races with 1 character, due to the major overhaul of the new player experience I am no longer certain it is possible, but it can't hurt to try. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Edited by: Jhessal on 24/04/2009 13:28:14 For anyone else who might be in the same situation, ill share with you what we did last night.
We both made new characters, mine is a Caldari and my wife went with a Gallente. I started on my brand new newbie missions while she warped to me. When she got to my station, she was able to talk to the agent, but the box kept popping up saying that she wasent in the right system to start the "crash course" tutorial. it got so annoying she ended up just warping back to her starting station and finishing that then heading back to my area.
Edit - One more thing, i tried looking around but really couldent find the answer. Two years ago when i first started when the characters chose their bloodlines and everything they got bonuses to their skills and such so that when you started you actually had a lot of skill points. Now it seems that the bloodlines and all that dosent really matter at all, and you earn skillpoints at double the rate till 1.5 million skillpoints area learned? Does that sound right?

This is correct. This is part of the major overhaul of the new player experience I was talking about.
P.S... How do I get my wife to play EVE, so far after multiple attempts over the years I am still unsuccessful <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

For what it is worth, I'm Caldari, and was over 1.6m skill points when I flew to Amarr and did the tutorials (I did them for standing).
I'm not sure if you can do the tutorials for all factions, but you can do them for any one you want (assuming they aren't angry at you because of low standing).

It's easier if you both start in the same political bloc.
Amarr/Caldari Gallente/Minmatar
I favor Amarr because it's less crowded and the stations are less dingy. Gallente you got that lame donut dock with bright lights, minmatar is like pitch black. Caldari is just boring. Amarr you got ships flying around, the stations look cool, the rookieships are symmetrical, the characters look ok, and lasers are just plain cool and less logistical headache of needing ammo.
Also you can name yourself Lord XXX and Lady XXX and pretend you each have 50,000 slaves.
It's pure win all around.
