Dear CCP,
This new thing you have with mini-downloaders and shoddy crc checks and bailouts, together with the CCP download providers caching broken files, is just appalling.
I know some people seem to be lucky and have no issues, but just from looking at the forums this system has created more problems than it solved.
Patching TQ was a nightmare that saw me snatch around 20-25gigs of data from you in failed and repeating corrupted downloads; that cannot be economical for you. Twenty four hours of hassle. SiSi won't patch *at all*, any way I try it.
I get that you like making your own custom versions of things (patchers, wiki, forums), but it doesn't mean you should. The old system worked fine, go back to it. |

It does need some polish, but afik it's still always possible to patch the old way if you have issues. Places to try:

To this date I haven't managed to even get ONE SINGLE PATCH this new way... Not on tranq, not on sisi...
A short while ago I've resigned to the fact I'll just have to do it manually.
Either fix this hunk of ****e or just tell people to patch manual.

This is the easiest way to patch your client if the autopatcher is being glitchy.

You do realize the patches wasn't written by ccp but it's a 3rd party patcher by nullsoft?
As for the crc errors, those have always been in the patcher, old and new. Since the patcher modifies files instead of replacing them completely, it needs to make sure it's the same before starting to modifiy it. Or would you rather end up with a game that doesn't start anymore without knowing the reason for it?
As for the mini-downloader... the manual patches up on these site contain the full patch. The only thing that has changed is that the eve-client doesn't download the huge patch anymore, instead the patcher does it now. Which in itsself is an improvement since the downloader in the client wasn't that reliable either. And like you said, they shouldn't try re-inventing the wheel by making costum versions for everything.
Edit: if you are getting CRC errors everytime you patch, I suggest you check your internet connection (use download managers for the full patch perhaps), check your harddrive for more corruption and check your ram as well since that might cause corruption too. _

The problem with all of the suggestions listed by people in this thread (and thanks for the input btw :) ) is that they all link to the files hosted by (or for) CCP which seem mostly to be corrupt.

And yet it works for nullsoft...

Funny how nobody had any problems until the new system... :/

You mean, like how it is now?

Sadly the "manual" patch doesn't always work either - that's assuming you can download it error free from the people that host for CCP.

Handy suggestions I guess? Every other program and game I have works just fine and patch just fine and my PC is 100% stable and reliable. In order to get Tranquility working again I had to skip CCP all together and download the game from Steam. Then it worked fine, although this version doesn't seem to patch to SiSi, but whatever. Perhaps, like you say, the problem is in a stick of RAM? -- 99% of Eve-o posters should stop posting. This probably includes me, but definitely includes you. |
