I've been using the technique described below to travel faster since I started playing a week ago, and I would like some input from more experienced players about it. Is it good or bad and why?
The technique consists of the following:
1. Configure an overview tab with only stargates in it, then select it. 2. Set a destination of your choice 3. Look for the yellow gate in the overview and right-click + warp-to-0m 4. While in warp, activate auto-pilot 5. As you exit warp above the gate, autopilot should auto-jump instantly 6. As soon as the overview refreshes with new gates, hover the yellow gate and wait for the cursor to change to the context menu icon. 7. As soon as that happens, right-click and click warp-to-0m before autopilot has time to warp on its own. 8. As you arrive at the gate, autopilot auto-jumps again... 9. Rinse and repeat step 6-8 until you reach your destination
It seems to work very well in empire space, but I haven't tried it in low sec yet, and I'm wondering how well it would work against gate campers and pc pirates...
The word seems to be "if you don't want to lose your ship, don't use autopilot ever...", but don't you have to select the gate and click jump manually when auto is not on?

Hi,
You already seem to know the answer:
"Never use Autopilot, ever."
If you want to jump through High sec systems and dont want to be at the computer and you can risk loosing EVERYTHING, then by all means, use Autopilot.
If on the other hand you are semi-AFK then always manually Warp to Zero and jump manually. Yes you need to click to warp and to jump, but you'll get there quicker and safer.

Suggestions:
1) Autopilot stays OFF. 2) Don't use right click. Use the Warp/Jump/Approach buttons on the Selected Item menu.

Not sure I follow you there, or that you understood what I did...
I'm never AFK when I do this, and autopilot is only there to JUMP for me, not warp... I manually warp-to-0m to every gate, but I do it before autopilot does it itself. I never have to approach the stargate, it's always on top and jumps instantly.
There's a delay before autopilot auto-warps, and that delay is just enough for you to click warp-to-0m manually while auto is still on. Are you saying there's also a delay for auto-pilot to jump and it would be quicker to do it manually?

I'll try that and see how much faster it is then...

1. Set destination. Check if autopilot is set on "stop at each waypoint". 2. Click first gate, click warp to. 3. RIGHT-click gate you're warping to, select "add as first waypoint" 4. Engage autopilot. 5. You jump on contact, autopilot disengages automatically after jump. 6. Repeat 2-5 for each jump.

Why not just press the jump button the second you come out of warp?
- select stargate
- warp to 0
- jump
Doesn't get much easier than that?

If you use the row of buttons on the top of your overview screen, you don't need to search out the stargate or right click. Just click stargate, click button on overview "Warp to Zero" and then when the "Jump" button right next to it is able to be clicked, you click it.
You will jump faster manually by spam clicking than autopilot will jump you.

I've had less issues slowing me down at jumps, like the 'already changeing sessions' crap that just has you hang there, when I use the same travel tactic as the OP. Not sure if there is a tech reason for that, or I'm just going crazy.

It is my preferred way of traveling (in Empire).
- set destination. - warp to zero and right after that hit auto pilot. - after auto pilot has commenced jump turn off auto pilot and repeat.
Why? Because it gives me time to do something in between, jumping 20-40 gates can get ''somewhat'' boring & tedious.
I would never use this in low sec though.
