Hey, couldn't find a forum for Window's related issues, figure I'd post it here.
My old PC broke recently, so I've been using a PC with 512MB RAM and I assume, a rather dated graphics card. Whenever I play EVE, I have to play on all low settings with no effects. My PC keeps crashing randomly when I'm playing, when I undock sometimes, when warping, when entering a mission etc.
If I upgrade the RAM to say 2GB, would that go a good way to eliminating this problem or is there another deep-rooted problem?
Thanks for any help.

1. The forum you were looking for : Linkage 2. Doubtful. You shouldn't get crashes from insufficient RAM, you'd get insanely low framerates due to HDD swapfile churning. The only hope is that you manually set the swap file size, and it's set way too low, and that would cause the crashes (very unlikely). If you get crashes now, you probably will still get crashes even if you had more RAM in it.

I had the same issue recently (admittedly on a newer system) - was my graphics card overheating and then locking up. -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

Edited by: thatbloke on 27/04/2009 12:22:41 It could also be that the RAM in this old PC of yours is faulty, this could be a cause of such random crashes as you describe. In this case, new RAM, replacing the old stuff would be good, but first, check the ram using something like memtest86. Run this overnight or something, it needs to be left running for a good few hours, though with only 512MB of RAM maybe 2-3 hours would be ok.
This will tell you if there are any errors with your currently installed RAM. If there are problems, get the new stuff and see if it fixes it.
The other consideration here is that you mention that you have an old PC, I would find out what motherboard you have in it and check that it will support 2GB of RAM, and if so, will 2x1GB be ok or will it have to be 4x512MB...

Thanks for the help.
How would I check to see what my motherboard is and how much RAM it supports?

You may need to just open the case and look at it. Usually they are labeled somewhere with the vendor name and model. If you still have the documentation packet that came with the computer though that would be what you're after. If you can figure out the vendor name and model of the motherboard, you can often go to the vendor's web site and get that manual if you don't have it any more.

Edited by: Grista on 27/04/2009 17:39:17 I currently use a rather old computer - 2.4 GHz P4, 1GB RAM, NVidia 6600 video card. I run two accounts, simultaneously in windows without any major problems.
I found EVE runs much better windowed than full screen very early on, well before the premium version even existed.
edit: Try running in windowed mode if you weren't, and consider upgrading your RAM to 1GB and possibly your video card (particularly if it's a 5xxx series Nvidia).
