Hi,
I did a little exploration experiment today. My main goal was to find some DED complexes (3/10 or maybe 4/10) in high sec.
I visited about 18-20 systems (0.9-0.5) and found the following:
A bunch of random pirate/drone rats (the 100% signal with one 32AU probe). Wormholes: 18x (up to 3 in one system) Magnetometric: 2x Radar: 1x Gravimetric: 1x Complex: 0x
Is it just bad luck or are there really so many wormholes out there.
Would be nice if wormhole signals could be recognized earlier, say at about 10-15% signal strenght - so you wouldn't have to spend so much time pinpointing them. ---

There are roughly 5000 k-space systems in EVE, and 2500 w-space systems, so on average ya lots of wormholes.

Is that a fixed amount? Or do the developers make new systems on a regular basis?

The system number is fixed. Wormhole amount probably fluctuates though. _

My best guess is that profession sites and complexes respawn in a wider radius than do wormholes. When they disappear, wormholes reappear in more similar system...I think sec status has a lot to do with it, as well. A wormhole that disappears in hisec will reappear in hisec, and possibly nearby.
Contrast that with complexes, which don't seem to care about the sec status of the system, and can spawn regions away.
Go into lowsec and you'll find HUGE amounts of complexes. One system, for example, I found 2x gravimetrics, one or two magnetometrics, a complex, and a wormhole. I found plenty of sites in neighboring systems, as well.

To add to what has been said, wormholes are not instanced. Even if the hole access fluctuates the systems are still active. That's why people get stuck in them, build POSs in them, and find ships others have abandoned.
