Long story shortish - ratting in low-sec I get tackled by a Crow and a Drake jumps in to finish off my Incursus. My drone must have auto targeted the Crow while I was attempting (in vain) to flee but I never fired a shot at the Drake. Manage to get my pod out and go buy a new Incursus.
This means I now have kill rights on the Drake pilot (yea, I know - but hey) so I figure I'll go see if I can work out how to use the directional scanner and go pay him a visit (scanning practice more than anything else). I eventually reckon I have his position down and warp in on top of him thinking I'll tackle him, fire a few shots across his bow and leave with my pride intact. This I do and promptly leave before his friends show up, not to mention his Drake was hurting me pretty bad even at close range.
So I get back into high sec and am approaching a gate when I get a message pop up saying something along the lines of:
Enemies of the Gallente Empire are not welcome here so you'd better do one pretty sharpish like or our big guns will pop your ship.
Now I was under the impression if I had kill rights I could fire at the chap without any form of repercussion (save from the player and his mates of course). I guess I was wrong. Also I was expecting, from what I have read, that the Drake pilot would be flashy red when I met him again but he wasn't. ?
Could anybody explain what I missed?

Quoted relevant details. Most likely, you DIDN'T have kill rights. Your drone engaging him made sure of that. ALWAYS check your kill rights first in the character sheet.

My drone fired at the Crow, not the Drake - the Drake pilot is still in my Kill Rights under "Can Kill"
Which while I think about it confuses me further as I was under the impression that KR expired if I engaged the pilot at all.

Hmmm... you wouldn't happen to have below -5.00 standings with the Gallente, now would you ? Or maybe you just engaged a different pilot with a very similar name ?
Just checking to be 100% sure, covering all bases...

Edited by: Nihiliax on 28/04/2009 18:18:46 Nah - just checked - my standing with the Gallente Federation is (+)0.35, I've only been playing a week and haven't done much more than a bit of mission running and ratting - certainly nothing that would lower my standings.
And it was definitely the right player I attacked, his name was not something I would mistake for someone else.

Edited by: Toshiro GreyHawk on 28/04/2009 18:45:15 Well ... I'm not sure what to say. If the guy is STILL in your Kill Rights list after you attacked him ...
Either there's a bug somewhere or some of the things you're sure of are wrong.
Take a look through that link and see if anything jumps out at you.
As to the Message about being unwelcome in Gallente space - are you SURE that was directed at YOU? If it was directed at someone else in the vicinity - you would see it too - even though it wasn't talking about you. Everyone sees those.

Ah! - No I am not sure the Enemies of Gallente etc. message was aimed at me. As I say I was approaching a gate when it popped up so it may well have been for someone else. I saw the message, saw I had an aggression timer (Crimes: Drake Pilot 15min), assumed the message was directed at me and well, scarpered. That explains that then I guess.
That said, I'm sure I read somewhere that my Kill Rights would expire in 30 days or if I engaged in hostile actions against the pilot in question but in the link posted it says I have them for 30 days or until my enemy is destroyed. I'm guessing by the fact I still have KR that it is the latter?
