I think the basic ideea is that EvE has the worst male:female ratio of any MMO at 20:1 and they're trying to put in things that may appeal to female gamers more ? I don't know how succesfull that may be but it's worth a shot.
Also according to the CCP EvE is supposed to be split between 3 main careers: combat, industrial and buisness. And i think we can all agree in practice it's not that way, it's something like 60% combat (missions/ratting + PvP), 30% industry (mining, salvaging, PoSs and research + production) and maybe 10% buissnes / administration.
So even if you consider this content to be only for buisness type characters it would be only fair they put it in. But it's not, i spend enough time spinning a ship in a station while bull****ting in corp chat that i'd rather do it with a nicer interface.

I have never seen a sleeper or entered a wormhole.
IĈm still glad they developed the content; I know some people love the new space, its just content that doesnĈt interest me at the moment.
WIS is no different to me.

The point of WIS is that it's a BASE for putting other things on.
In the beginning it will be nothing but stupid fluff for shallow females (and sausagefest)
Over time they will develop it more more more, maybe even have in-station combat.
Could lead to something with owning planets, invasion of outposts with troops, fly in personnel carrier loaded with stormtroopers to take over an enemy station, stuff like that.
For now I think it's cool to have my own apartment, I can see myself using it. I can see the roleplaying community in particular making good use of it, to have ideological arguments in the bar, for squads that fly together to all hang out in the same station and play checkers, or ogle the dancing strippers.
How bout Eve Radio? I bet the DJ's will make heavy use of ambulation, to run contests, etc.
Also it reduces the workload of the cluster, because WIS will be on its own set of servers, so it will ease congestion especially in places like Jita.
Even if they add NOTHING else, WIS is a good deal.
But as I said in the future it will become the base for other expansions, like station invasions etc.
Maybe in the future we'll have atmospheric fighters to support a ground war, custom corp paint schemes, wing names like "Black Widow Squadron" etc.
For now its just Sims 3 but think of the future.

It's just these concepts are tailored to very few. I'd rather have content tailored to more people. Or have the Devs using their time more to fix things for more people.
Apartments and what not I kinda get, but the rest well Ive said it enough before.
Tailored to a very few you say? Eve-online is pretty much the only relatively popular MMO that *doesn't* have an in-game avatar (The portrait doesn't count). I'll tell you what's tailored to a very few. Being your ship, building ships for people to be, and trading ships for people to be. And then fighting other people who are ships. You're not the person inside, you're the ship. Just just have a picture of some random person that you'll never see from another angle on your character info. Because thats "all that matters in eve"
For many people, like me, the universe and backstory of eve matters just as much, if not more, than ship combat, industry or whatever. We're one of the FEW people of an entire colonized star cluster that can interface with capsules. Compared to other players, you may not nessescarily be that powerful. But you are a god compared to the normal populace of eve.
People want to experience that :3

Seems to me that WIS is laying the groundwork for much more complex things such as: "Walking on Planets".
Some kind of planetary interaction in EvE would be pretty cool, I think. My guess is that CCP is taking baby steps on this. If they can't make it work in stations...going to planets would be a bad investment of resources.

6. Use office space for corp meetings.... Reminds me of other MMO's with random mandatory meetings in a city space. (pointless because everyone uses vent or a private channel anyway.)
The point being there are collaborative tools within the environment that you can interact with as a group. the map being the one mentioned previously by CCP.

Originally by: Enuen Ravenseye Considering 95% of the female characters in the game are really guys, are you sure you want to go there?
Has it ever occurred to you to ask why that is? It's been pointed out in the thread, so I won't repeat it. Of course, so many guys in MMOs have never even been near a woman that they end up spouting blatant sexism like 'girls can't get games like EVE' that makes them look like the proverbial teenager in a basement...
Ambulation will finally let us see ourselves, not some ship that is going to last an hour in space before getting blown up. That alone is worth the investment. As others have stated, it helps mould EVE further into that living breathing world that we all know is there, tantalisingly out of reach.
There's plenty of scope for actual gameplay there. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

The reason in my view is simple. To bring in more subscribers. Currently Eve only caters to a few playstyles. Ambulation is more personal and social because it is face to face. This will be more appealing to people who are addicted to facebook and the like.
In real life bars aren't all that appealing by themselves. The reason people go there is to meet others, imbibe substances that increase social interaction, and overall escape from the grind. Put that way RL bars and WIS is very similar.

it is a fact that is rather rare for women to be interested in space stuff. or scifi in general. is also a fact that if you play fantasy mmos the male/female ratio is way way closer than eve's is.
tho i think it is less uncool or nerd like to like scifi than it was 10 15 years ago in some ways. but women have a more earthy nature, being mothers and all it is easy to see why they would gravitate to things closer to home so to speak.
think you could probably do a survey and find that even to this day it is the exception rather than the rule that women say oh ya i love scifi, well battlestar galactic might have drawn a few more women into the scifi realm, with it's use of strong characters and human interaction and existence rather than green alien women from alpha centauri and big laser guns.

I will use ambulation for two things.
#1 Smacktalking people. "I'm in your home station giving you the bird!"
#2 Looking out windows from a bar with a dancing stripper. "I see you didn't like me insulting your mothers poor sexual prowess and have decided to camp me in with a bunch of battleships."

I don't think ambulation will have windows. Something about the fact that they are putting EvE on a completely separate server cluster, so you won't actually still be in Jita when your in Jita 4-4.

Quote: But in a new update planned for 2009, entitled 'Walking in Stations', players will for the first time be able to explore interiors of space ships and space stations. In order to create the most beautiful and exciting interiors, CCP have turned to the market-leading lighting product Enlighten.

Edited by: Crevo Helion on 01/05/2009 05:05:41 That link that Iamien posted above looks pretty interesting! The graphics for Ambulation will be top notch I'm sure, when it is released.
As for the OP's argument, the same could be said of the Chronicles they give us every other Monday, or the news updates, or any of the backstory really.
The reason it's there is to draw us more into their world. Like other posters have said, they didn't create this game just for pew-pew (although for many of us it's one of the main reasons we play ), but its to enjoy an experience of living in a sci-fi story, one that we all are a part of making.
I know for me personally, it's going to be a lot of fun meeting "in-person" the folks who I fly and fight beside (and against ), and I may spend most of my time in space doing what I've always done. But occasionally after a good battle I'm going to dock up, head to the nearest bar, and party IC with my friends .
Oh, and I'm totally looking forward to CCP moving this forward eventually to planets and atmospheric flying!

I honestly just think that they are using us, players of Eve as their Alpha test guinea pigs for ambulation which is really aimed for their future, as yet to be named, World of Darkness MMO.
Since I fail to see the "need" for WIS, being greater than some other great advances that could happen in the game, like planet interaction for example. --

TBH they are making the engine for the white wolf MMO they are working on. They are adding it to eve because they figure they have it there anyways might as well use it to do a bit of value add on eve. Fact is if you dont like it you can always ignore it.

WIS isnt for Eve, its designed for the Upcomming "world of Darkness MMO", Eve Pilots are simply the BETA testers for it, and your getting the Feature wether you like it or not.
