I dont know if this was discussed ealier. I've just returned to EVE after 2 years gone, and when i get to Jita the local channel is filled with scams 24/24 (well 23/24 if you count the DT).
It's always the same people repeating over and over the same scamming contracts.
I know thats legal to scamm players ingame (at least it was on my days), but on those days the market hub (Yulai) and i didn't saw anything even remotly like this endless spam of scams.
On my days to mount a effective scam you would need some cleaver idea and even so it's was hard to do. Has everyone gone dumb in EVE?! Does anyone accept the 999M interbus shutles scams?! And this is what the less bothers me.
What really bothers me is seeing local spammed 24/24 by the same people (don't they sleep?!) or are they bots?! On my days bots weren't allowed, unless something changed meanwhile.
Can you please clarify this to me. Whats CCP policy for the use of bots to spam local with scamms?! Or don't they worry with lag anymore?!

That's so true. I hadn't thought of it. Why hasn't someone started a thread about this?

A couple things to consider. One, there's a LOT of people playing Eve. And since it's set up as one big server, and Jita is biggest market hub, it gives a person scamming in Jita local a very large pool of potential victims. If they average even one successful scam every hour it's going to be worth their time, considering they don't have to do any actual work beyond pasting a into the chat box and hitting enter.
That's assuming they're not botted, and I'd be very much surprised if at least some of them weren't. CCP's policy is still against bots. But they have a very large population to police, and it's not going to be easy to actually prove someone's a bot.

Yep, avoiding looking at local and setting blink off is probably the best you can do to protect yourself. There CAN be usefull deals in local, but as most people dont even bother looking due to scammers, the very few good deals there is, is often neven seen and the seller just puts it on market or contract.
I do wish there was some way to ignore enough players to avoid all scammers, or something else, but there's not since it seems legal.

Taking this from a purely business perspective, I've looked briefly at the local Jita scams, pulled up the contract history and briefly totted up the numbers in my head.
Not a good sample, I know, too painful to do more but I suspect that more ISK has been taken with the 999kk scam than anything that has gone down here in MD recently.
How much do you guys reckon has been scammed by Eve player's numerical illiteracy?

jita local is much worse since the popularization of the 1M= 1B scams. CCP should really put a mod in jita and gag spammers. I didn't say scammers, I said spammers.

Edited by: Potsnack on 01/05/2009 21:15:14 I can't believe that anyone who has the intelligence required to seek out this part of the forum has lost ISK to Jita scams, but I don't doubt that there are players out there who do fall for them - as I have said before regarding ISK, easy come, easy go.
Nonetheless, posting about the scams in here serves no purpose really as I doubt anyone who has earned isk the hard way loses it to the bottom feeders (and possibly their Bots) now residing in Jita local. On a personal note I find them quite enteraining, and if you are really bored, you can actually make isk off of the scammers.

All scams were clever back in the day? Like the escrow scams similar to the 999m ones in Jita now? or selling fake bookmarks? and no bots back in the day? like the mining bots and escrow bots?
