Is there any way to fire your different weapons and skills at the secondary targets you have locked on to? For example my ship has 5 missile launchers can I lock onto 4 targets and shoot at each of them using one launcher each...I don't have any levels of targeting yet, do I need some?

Yep, lock all targets then click launch on 1 missile, click the next target along the top of the screen, click on next launcher etc etc Your guns etc will always fire / work on the currently selected target and you swap targets by clicking on them along the top.
Means you do less damage to each target and if they are repairing you may find you don't kill them at all (just **** them off slightly). Generally its a good idea to use all your fire-power on one target at a time to kill it quickly. ----

Shame some people have yet to connect them.

You need the targeting skill to target multiple targets, yes.

Yeah, the Targeting Skill allows you to increase the number of targets you can lock at the same time. I think you get 2 to start.
The default target is the one on the far right with the moving circle around it - if you click on one of your weapons modules THAT is the target that will be engaged. To engage another locked target, simply click on one of the other targets you have locked and note that the rotating circle moves to this one. It is now the default target.
Also, you can move the locked targets display around some (there's a little white circle with cross hairs through it you can drag and you can also right click on it) if you don't like where it's at. You can have it display vertically instead of horizontally.
And yes, usually you want to concentrate your fire on one of your enemies to remove their firepower from the fight but if you are dealing with a swarm of crappy frigates who aren't hurting you, then it is often faster to disperse your fire.

Keeping on the subject of targeting. My BS can target 8 targets, but my skill (at level 4) only allows me to target 6.
If I train Targeting to 5, will that let me target 8...or do I need Targeting 5, plus an implant, to be able to lock 8 targets?

The skill Multitasking (available after you train Targeting V) allows additional target to max for the ship you are flying.
That being said, imho it is doubtful you should need to target 8 items regularly enough to justify the time spent training Targeting V.

True. Multitasking is very handy for logistics pilots but otherwise it's not that much of use. Targeting IV is usually enough.
