Ok I am trying to make it so all my turrets fire at the push of one button, I was told I can do this through entering grouping mode but I can't figure out what to do once I am in that mode.

Once your in the grouping mode you can drag guns/launchers on top of eachother to make the stack.
- The guns/launchers must be the same item and type (no stacking different guns). - No ammo may be loaded while you're stacking. - Make sure you've not locked your modules, as that will prevent you from dragging them.
Once you're done grouping, leave the grouping mode, load your stack of guns and fire away

Once you've entered grouping mode, you need to unload all charhes in your turrets, and then click-n-drag the turrets on top of each other. Please note that AFAIK you can only group modules of exactly the same type, and have to load them with the same ammo/charge/missile types. So far, I've only done this whilst in flight, so don't know if this can be done whilst docked at a station.

To enter grouping mode click on the little triangle just below and to the right of the speed indicator. Though it sounds like you already made it that far.
Once in grouping mode you can drag your guns on top of each other to create stacks of guns. It also works for missile launchers but not for anything else. Normally you would drag them all to one stack.
Note that your guns must be unloaded for this to work. Otherwise you will only get an error message.
Once done exit grouping mode the same way you entered it.

I don't think it's possible to do it in station. Neither is moving modules around so you can use different hotkeys for them.

Ahhh I didn't know I had to remove my charges! Worked like a charm.
Also is there any way to make what I have in my 8th slot not be so far away from my first slot. It's just aesthetically not very pleasing.

Sure, just drag it where you want to put it. Can put it anywhere really.

Gah! I should have tried that before asking!
Well, I like the way my ship looks when all turrets fire at the same time... sadly I think I do better when they aren't grouped together.

You can, indeed, do both of these from the fitting screen.

Wow, never knew you could do this. I just macroed my G keys to F1-FWhatever (G15 Keyboard) and used it that way. Hm, glad I read this. =D
