You stated:
Locked.
Please do not discuss exploits on the forums. If you suspect dishonest activities, please file a petition under rules and policies - exploits.
However, if you read closely, we were not discussing ANY exploits. We were discussing ways to get rid of market bots. Time and time again we have petitioned botters in Eve. And time and time again CCP does NOTHING. If CCP was successful in removing bots, or even acknowledging the problem and started combating it there would be absolutely no need to make these posts on the forums. We are asking you to take ACTION and DO something about these bots. Locking and avoiding posts does not make the problem go away.
Love, Pecker

I think the exploit being referred to may have been the method for evading the chat block. Though trade window spamming is not new.
Alternatively, he could have been referring to botting in general (which doesn't make any sense given that macroers are discussed regularly).
You may note that discussion moderation is against the forum rules. I recommend changing the op so it asks the question a different way.

there's a couple of bots in dodixie area too, i reported one of them, the dreaded .62-bot that has buy orders for several items including improved implants(which i need for my own use, not to resell). anyways, it sucks having to deal with them, and ccp srsly needs to do something about it. how about a popup windows with the chicken-scratch-words that you have to decipher correctly like when entering in intarweb contests? just pop one of those up on any account exhibiting bot-like behavior, for the bot-tears ofc :)

It's really a shame we can't have a serious and open discussion of this. Botting is becoming a serious problem in the markets.

NO! I can't read half of those stupid things. CCP could nerf the bots by actually dealing with petitions instead of ignoring them.

This. If the reported bots were dealt with it would 1) Resolve a lot of problems and 2) Make the players happy

This is one thread that I haven't reported because there does need to be a discussion on this topic. Along with anti-bot counter measures (which don't infringe any rules from our perspective).

well, i didnt mean for every order, or even every client....just the clients exhibiting bot-like behavior ;) but whatever, i don't really care what kind of fire they use as long as the botting stops :D

This needs to be dealt with, and not glazed over with the CCP paintbrush like so many other issues.
We will not be satisfied until CCP makes a visible effort against bots. Start investigating every petition received about market bots to start, then come up with some anti-bot countermeasures. I wouldn't mind entering a captcha every 5 orders that I modify...

After reading through the comments in both this thread and the last I feel that although I cannot really add anything new to the conversation the least I can do is support the efforts of those that have posted and want to see change. I have very little market experience (as most of the lounge knows)so I have yet to encounter a market botter first hand. However, that does not mean that I don't understand the frustration.
That being said, until CCP decideds to stop ignoring the petitions and come up with some anti-bot software or system, we as the controllers of the market (and I say "we" lightly as I am not sure I am considered part of this community yet)have to take this into our own hands and do what we can to come up with ideas (and share them) to counter actions taken by botters.

Didn't CCP dealt with mining bots by simply changing some window ui?

CCP either can't or won't fix the botting problem. I can understand that - virtually all MMO's struggle with the goldfarmer/botter/hacker issue. However, the recent attempts to "whitewash" any mention of a problem is incredibly crude and insulting to the players. I NEVER thought I would say this, but:
The players are expressing valid concerns in a thoughtful manner, and the moderators need to grow up.

Edited by: Sir Elliot on 06/05/2009 02:35:30 Also, it's worth noting that bot-mining is very different from bot-marketing.
Mining bots indirectly impacted players by impacting the price of minerals, etc. Though your prices were impacted, your direct game play experience was not. True, miners suffered from decreased profit, but this had a lot to do with reprocessing too. If you wanted to mine and enjoy the game content the way it was intended to be enjoyed, you were free to do so without much trouble.
However market bots are directly interfering with the way many players are trying to play the game, and directly disrupting it. Market botting directly prevents non-bots from using the market in the way it is intended.
I suspect it is also a major source of ISK for illegal sales. We're not talking about jita local spamming, we're talking about bots active on the markets themselves, 23/7 manipulating a multitude of orders in a way that is impossible for a human.

Ya Brock, they changed it so a little window opens up when the miner/market bot logs in, and asks "how many hours will you be needing us to turn a blind eye today?"
Seriously though, the mining bots are still out there in force, I dont even bother to petition them as I have no idea if CCP will do anything about it. I just reclaim thier Ice Harvester IIs and sell it back to them on the market.
The market bots are far more annoying than the others and apparently, if you have a way to stop them, you should keep it to yourself or your thread will get locked.
