It's fun to read about the growth, development, and expansion of the races of New Eden, but it seems at some point that all of that died off and the EVE universe is very static.
Will there ever be expansions into new space, construction of new star gates, faction wars that actually result in the loss or gain of new systems. The early days of each faction was filled with advances in technology and innovation. Now, we have the same old stuff everywhere we look. Where's the mystery? Oh, you mean Incursions? With regard to incursions, does anything actually change other than players repelling the same old stuff event after event with no real long term effects?
How about advances in technology, new POS systems, etc.... Seems like progress in New Eden came to some crashing halt a while back and now we're going to be walking in stations!!! YAY

They gave up on the lore / story of the game. It's up to us now. Case in point: EVE is real |

Its amazing how powerful having a great back story and lore can be.
Just look at Lotro.
Apart from having beautiful and sometimes breath taking landscapes, it is average in everyway and yet because of the back story, because of the lore, it has lasted a lot longer, and had more success then its had any right to.
Look at the up and coming new Star Wars MMO, SWTOR. I have played the beta, an it is nothing but a out and out WoW Clone but with a Star Wars skin and I am not the only who has this opinion.
Like Lotro is is very average and is not ground breaking in anyway, however everybody knows financially it will be a monster success and this is due in a large part its lore and back story.
STO is another MMO which heavily relies on its lore and backstory.
Again nothing special and has been slated by and large but it has over 80k subs (based on xfire) and will grow a lot when it goes to F2P.
The developers of these games know how powerful the lore and back stories are in making these games a success and in pulling new people in so they make it an active part of the game.
So for all that is Holy why you are not doing the same CCP?
Eve has an amazing lore and back story to it and yet you have seemingly abandoned it.
Okay peope will point to Incursions.. well they only effect a player if he choses to take part and thats it.
I would love to see CCP get back to continuing the Eve Story and to shape the game around it. So the Eve universal feels like a living entity instead of feeling so static.
This would be a great Marketing tool within itself. Borders changing, border skirmishes between factions, more pirate factions NPC's with sleeper AI.. Come on use your imagination as you have proved in the past that you are damn good at it.

Dynamic vs static and stagnant vs growing are two separate issues.
New Eden is dynamic and changes all the time. PCU is on a downward trend. It appears to be about the 11th downward trend since the begining.
Seemed like you were trying to tie the two together.
For example just one simple change in scanning technology has saved me dozens of hours in game.
Recently salvaging became a lot better with the noctis.
The did not change POS's but they changed the way you fuel them, with PI.
No, they dont gain and lose buildings/systems in hisec. But in null they do.
They added a bunch of systems to the game with wormholes. There are still many unclaimed wormholes. I found a c4 red giant unclaimed just last night. |

Lore like the fact we are the elite members of a society and thus so treasured it takes only a couple of hundred missions before you may buy a pair of pants. And that we have surpassed the limits of flesh and mortality... unless we need to dock. It's pointless caring about the Lore when CCP doesn't.
And the game is stagnant when a lot of people feel they've explored all the gameplay options available and of interest to them. There's certainly a strong argument a lot of the playerbase are in that position. Supported by the declining in game activity.

We are the lore.
There should be a lot of awesome stuff that have happened in the game, there are videos floating around atleast. Would be cool if someone took their time to write some of that stuff.

Low sec/null sec integration for empire players or new players? Why not try and get more people to move into low or null sec? I f there was someway of getting more people to try it out then surely that would be worthwhile? There's a big perception out there that low and null consists of turning up-look-get podded. I'm sure if there was seamless way of getting newer players into this untapped market then their confidence would build, their game play experience would be better and the overall experience of EVE would be better. Until the perception of " A move to low/null means you will be podded/scammed/ransomed 100% of the time'" then there will never be any changes.
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream. |

That's what I am talking about... while players do have a certain impact on other players, we really don't have that much impact on the game in general. You can't beat Concord, build your own jump gate, find/secure systems that aren't already existing, develop new weaponry... etc. You are very much confined to some mechanics (and in some cases mechanics for the sake of mechanics). Imagine what EVE would be like if you could take systems from Gallente or Amarr? What if you could build your own jump gates? Incursions would have been much better if territory was actually being overtaken by the Sansha... but, as it is, the Sansha are just a nuisance rather than a real threat. |

Hmm good thread at last.
Personally, I don't think 'EVE' has stagnated, but the player base is certainly refraining from doing anything 'expensive' until we know some more about the future of certain 'WIN BUTTON' ship classes :-)
Talking about Lore, s did we solve the mystery of the Sansha yet?
i.e.
- How are they using wormholes to travel?
- can we, as regular pod pilot types (Gods amongst mortal men) employ this technology to lead our own incursions into hostile territory ?
- how do they keep the holes open to send through so many ships?
- What level of control do they have over this power?
- Does it have any adverse affects (such as creating pockets of dead space where MWDs can't function?
There's plenty of mystery left in EVE, just needs opening up I believe. What will EVE look like when we know all of the answers?
Hmm Tobacco for your pipe!

Those are good questions.... but, are we allowed to find out? Why can't we do something similar? Sure, there's still plenty of mystery, but what good will it do with EVE being "locked" in the way it is? There really isn't room for "true" sandbox expansion here. |
