An idea I had to promote PvP in FW is to have players when their ship is destroyed drop a tag like NPCs do. You would have to have those tags and LP to buy the good items from the LP stores. This would stop players from exclusively farming FW complexes and promote more player interaction.
What do you all think of this idea? Good idea or is it a WTF are you thinking idea? |

How is it easier than just straight up farming NPCs in complexes? FW players will be getting LP for killing other players in opposing factions in the coming changes. Why not have them drop tags as well as getting LP? Make the players only drop tags when an opposing faction destroys them. |

two bots, one in each opposing faction, free noobships.
Not a good idea, and like said above, easy to farm.
We have so much fw changes a head, we need time to see what works and what is broken.

The NPC mechanic for tags is chanced based, tags do not always drop. Refine it further, no tags drop from trial account characters, noob ships or module-less ships. The higher the market value of the ship + mods + rigs the better the tag that drops. Also put a timer in that will not allow another tag to drop for x amount of time. That will stop farming of tags. I just hope that CCP has a similar mechanic in place to stop the farming of LP from player kills. |

That won't stop anything. Two alts in faction or T2 frigates, or anything with decent insurance, and cheap fits, killing eachother in turns to farm up tags for two factions. |

I have a slow internet connection and do not feel like tying up my PC for days downloading the test server install. Has CCP put in any safe guards to stop the farming of LP from player kills? |

I actually mentioned something similar to this in the Test Server Forum. Basic idea was instead of Tags, which are too easily destroyed and are making Faction Items useless for Militia members as they overly inflate the price of your death on a killboard (which is disheartening to see when ppl are gloating) but more over they're just too damn'd expensive to bother with... which is a shame.
People farm LP and Tags for the simple fact, these modules are in high-demand with ridiculous prices. With the simple result that only people sporting very expensive ships to begin with ever really use them, it isn't very common to see even cheap Faction Hardware on other FW Killmails unless you just popped a T3.
Instead what would be better is if Tags were replaced with Commendations. You would earn Commendations only from Enemgy NPCs and Players, but they would act like a bounty value; each class of ship would have a corresponding Commendation:
Frigate / Destroyer = Grade 1 Cruiser / T2 Frigate = Grade 2 Battlecruiser / T2 Cruiser / T3 Cruiser = Grade 3 Battleship / T2 Battlecruiser = Grade 4 Capital = Grade 5
Rookieships and Industrials would be exempt. The number of commendations would be equivilant to what the kill is worth, so the more expensive a ship you destroy the more you will earn; this also means that every NPC would only be worth 1. This would make it guarenteed you would earn the Commendation, with items that can be bought with LP / ISK, also having a Commendation version that has a reduced LP / ISK cost.
This means while players can still farm (as they always will) their earning potencial would be far lower than those who actually engage in PvP, the same with the value being based on the kill value; sure you could farm unfitted Merlins you make all day but you'd be able to earn more against a single Navy Comet or Dramiel.
These could then be traded in at the LP Store, but not traded with other players. A further suggestion is that instead of Ranking up automatically via Standings, instead they could gain a rank by either simply buying it via Commendations & LP; or by Donating to improve Systems.
Idea behind that actually comes directly from Elite, where Ranks were based on an increasing number of Commendations you'd earn from doing missions; same with your Elite Rating that increased with point-based killed; the bigger the kill the more points you earnt.
In this fashion the more active you are within the Militia, particularly involved in Complex Running / System Upgrading / PvP then the better off you will be.
I mean to me, LP from actively pushing territory and Commendations from actively engaging in combat; strikes a nice balance. This way regardless of how well a war is going, everyone will always have a fairly steady income by participating; while those who simply run missions or focus on a single aspect, just won't be able to sustain themselves particularly well.
Something I have been thinking would be a truely awesome implimentation would be Militia Issue Ships. So all of the Tech 1 ships have a Militia Issue variation, they are identical in terms of their setup; but they have a bonus that is tied directly to your Rank.
This bonus wouldn't be amazing, as there are 10 Ranks (or might be 9) so each level would only provide say a 2.5% bonus to bring the Militia Issue in-line performance to in-line with say Tech 2 ships; while only being 2x the price of Tech 1. With the bonus only being active while in Militia.
I can't really speak for many others in Militia, but I didn't join to simply get rich but rather have some entertaining PvP... something that becomes more difficult as ship prices sky rocket, while adjusting it so we can earn more LP to help pay for combat is a possible solution; honestly the best solution is just to give us market semi-independant means of getting replacement ships and equippment.
This I think would definately give us those means. Faction Gear, imo shouldn't be anywhere near as expensive as it is. The bonus' they provide are often just not worth the cost unless you're already so rich you couldn't care less, this is why people will use blob warfare as well; to protect their investments... while sure that means you win, really there is little in the way of risk or skill involved often causing the oppositing to refuse to want to bother.
Now I don't want to see Faction Gear become so cheap as to make Tech 2 pointless, but I do think it should only be 4x as expensive; as opposed to the current +10x it is. Mind I also think that Faction Gear should only be usable on Faction / Pirate Ships, with those ships having no bonus' over T1 themselves. That way their bonus' come from the Faction hardware, this would still give them a noticable advantage, especially if they were expanded to allow T2 ammo to be used.
This way T1, T2 and T3 would have to rely on Storyline, Deadspace, Complex and Officer Mods for their bigger bonus' over T2. If this came in to effect it might **** off a few people, but if it was a simple case they could no longer be fitted; but already fitted would still work fine, then you would have a sub-culture market (as is the case with Large-Rigs on Small Ships) that would increase the value of those ships for a time or even make them collectors items.
Whatever the case, I honestly think that would all be a good move towards having Faction Warfare an interesting seperate experience in the same way that W-Space is. |

Thanks guys for opening my eyes to the perils of going with tags. I dont want to hand another revenue stream to the ISK whores. |
