So this is the idea I had today about a new role for destroyers, seeing as how they are mostly religated to salvage/ looters. Why not give them the ability to fit a module that would allow it to seek out cloakers within a certain distance, with a small degree of certainty. Say a certain planet, but no which moon or belt. Once they get to that area, they can than get a better fix on its location and narrow it down to a belt/moon/gate. Once on the same grid as the cloaker, a destroyer could fire a bomb that does nothing more than shut down a cloaking device for a minute or two. It mayeven be able to shut down the engine and just about any other module the cloaker has fitted. Much like an EMP burst, but would or could also shut down any other ship in the area. Just brain storming here, ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Call it a sonar module, giveit a 30k range. Make it act like a Smart Bomb. Only thing it does is decloak and disrut the cloaking devise for 60 secs.
Make it have an insane fitting requirement and drop it by 99.9% for the destroyer.
Back story it as some type of EM Pulse that has been modulated to the correct frequency to disrupt the blah blah blah of a cloaking device.
This would give the Destroyer a new fleet role... put it on the outside checking for cloakers. It would also give it a hunters role too. ///my vote is for sale, he who sends the most iskies gets it\\\ |

Maybe for a new t2 destroyer, and this idea is old.

Stop trying to nerf cloaking. If you want to buff destroyers, make them more efficient against ceptors. They already have fast locking, give more range and tracking bonus to guns and we're good.

First off, not trying to nurf anything. Cloakers would still be a viable solution.
Second, stop trolling. Your normal posts are bad enough.
Third, destroyers are worthless with the tank they have. Normally targeted and popped before the pilot has a chance to respond. Can be destroyed by a frigate, so they really have no use when its job can be done better by frigates and cruisers.
So please, unless you have something useful to say and not just trolling, keep it to yourself.

This is not trolling. If saying out my opinion is trolling, then what are you doing here?
All I am I saying, cloakers need no special ships to scan them down. I also suggested a better role for destroyers. I know their tank is paper, but so is ceptors. With the role bonus to destroyers, if they get more tracking and range, they can instapop ceptors.
Trolling... bleh.

This.
Except don't call it a sonar module...that would be nonsensical because sonar couldn't work in space. The sound waves have no medium to travel through.

this is actually a very old and fleshed out idea.
if it was gonna be implemented it would probably just be some kind of special probe launcher that can use special probes and then use the scanning system but ccp has been hesitant to allow something to decloak a ship in the past I dont know if this will change anytime soon. Signature locked. Please submit a petition to discuss the matter further. Navigator |

No, they are not. All destroyers need is a competent pilot. -- The Theorem Theorem: If If, Then Then --

This is exactly why my corp used dessie gangs before the nano nerf...they were great to take out the scouting interceptors for a nano raming gang. They would take out interceptors before they even got into disruptor range. A catalyst or corm with rails can pop an interceptor in 2-3 volleys

Oh yeah, the Cormorant is a rail ship. I always think missiles for Caldari, but its the Flycatcher that has missile hardpoints.

Gotta love the blaster Catalyst. It's a fast-moving wedge of up to 400 DPS that people often ignore in fleet battles.
People say dessies are useless for combat, this is not the case at all.
Maybe the decloaking bomb will be a gift for T3 dessies.

This would be sweet adition into 0.0 buble camps... No more cloaked ships sliping through... ever...
Seriously, do people actually think these ideas through before posting here or just shooting blind?

Then explain why we have the sounds of explosions and gun/missile fire in space. The star gates also make nose when fired. Eve does not = real science. Eve is not a space simulator. Ships in space travel travel at maximum speed even with the engines off, unless gravity affects them. Eve does not even employ a basic fact of physic so call it a sonar module.

...you dont have CD player and HiFi soundsystem in your pod? When your ship can talk to you, I'm sure it is capable of creating event driven sound effects too
Now could you explain why we would actually NEED this module / ship / feature / [insert your own option]

Sounds are added by the ship's computer to help the capsuleer use all their senses, read some backstory or PF before you pull the sound in space argument out.

The game would be insanely boring if there were no sound :P science be damned

My thoughts exactly. You want to give me a T1 ship worth 1 mil that can stop cloaked ships from passing through bubble camps? Sounds great to me
But until CCP start smoking what the OP is smoking, I'll keep using my Thrasher for what it's meant to do: Blowing up frigs (lol at all the "its only good for salvaging" posts).
This is a post. It says stuff. |
