How the hell are you so sure that he is afk? Just because he doesn't show up right outside the station screaming "throw me the ball, throw me the ball"?
Other than that I agree that you have to take some risks if you want to gain anything. An easy solution is go to the system next door to pve. If he follows he is not afk, and can be baited and killed. |

That is actually good idea. CCP THAT IS good idea. This way ppl dont afk in cloak 24/7 and that way other have better change to probe and kill this cloakkers. They can hide but they cant hide forewer. But... why? Why should everyone else's engines magically be able to run his/her ship around non-stop 24/7, but stealth ships have to gas up just because some people don't like where they choose to idle? Heck, realistically speaking, if you're completely idle, cloaking could involve nothing more than turning OFF the engines. Space is big, after all.
Stealth ships have a specific role. Please, for the love of all that is holy, don't let the usual MMO-slide towards sameness infect Eve. You want a solution to AFK cloaked ships, fine - but make it believable, not some deus-ex hack. Maybe put in some specialized "sub-hunter" stuff. Give players a way to uncloak a cloaked enemy - but make it take a good long time. Make it warn the stealth ships that it's starting to happen - active players can bug out, AFKers can get blasted out of the sky, everyone can win. I'm sure there are tons of other solutions that fix the problem AND feel like part of the game world, rather than some quick bandaid. I once killed a six-pack, just to watch it die. |

Sitting there in your captains quarters, spinning your ship............have a look out the window.
Look very closely.
See that odd there-but-not-really-there shimmer against the stars?
He's looking right at you through your window.
Watching your every move.
Plotting, planning and scheming his way to your destruction.
Every fitting change, He sees it.
Every ammo load, he notices for the counter.
You are doomed.
Accept it.

Simple fix. Have a cloak also mask your Local signal when active. WH dwellers can tell you what to do when it happens.
Hint: It involves actual awareness and that little Dscan button. |

WoW disconnects you from the server, if you are AFK for "too long time". But this ist not WoW.
THIS - IS - SPAR.... erm ... EVE !
If someone sits outside in an Vessel, cloacked, then he is either actively scaring you to hell, waiting for you to undock, and a potential thread to you (and btw: he's investing his time into scaring you). Or he's really AFK, and then no thread to you. The risk lies in your decision, which of both might be true. EVE is about to ponder risk versus possible profit.
Maybe look from the other side: How long are you waiting at the station? How likely is it, that your enemy is intense starring at the overwiew - fully concentrated - and waiting for you undocking? Pick a very fast vessel and hope for a moment of distraction of your enemy.
What about just switching to another charakter and do some other stuff? Let him wait until he rots.
Maybe you want to do some walking in station, visit a nice bar, have a look at the strippers, do some gambling. Just go out of the door in your captains quarter and .... oh ... wait .................
... .... ah, now i know, why some people don't want Station walking to be implemented |

thank you so much for reviving this pointless debate for its bi-monthly exposure on the forums, way to go.
what is an afk covops going to do anyhow? really
even uncloaked its hardly a threat unless he has a gang in the next system you can't fend off 120-200 DPS from a frig? with a 4k tank?
you don't belong in null, pay off your landlord and GTFO The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

I joined the game for 6 months only so I am not sure if I am the only one who feels that way.
I only have a couple of hours and i see a red camping our system and adjacent system 24/7 everyday.

Sounds like the same thing to me.

Jawns.
Grow balls go out to your anomaly hit D-scan every few seconds (The Cloaker needs to find you as well) No Probes out, you're safe. D-scan picks up probes, check your mates, they're not probing, get the hell out of there.
Keep aligned will help as well, Sacrifice a mod for warp stabalisers. Find an escort.
Check the cloaker on his losses to get an idea of his fit and prepare.
If all above fails congratulate the not so afk cloaker on a job wel done.
the next 78 times you'll able to finish the anomaly and harvest a **** load of ISK. |

I can't even watch TV in my quarters! :( I don't really see the problem. So there is an AFK cloaked ship in the system. Sure, it's a shame that a player forgot to log out of EVE when he went to bed/work/potty. But even though it's a waste of electricity to have an unused PC flipped on - especially in our current economic/ecological climate - it's really not your fault and you shouldn't let it affect your gameplay.
If you are really concerned about it, just send him an eve-mail and explain how you feel about it. " Take my love, take my land, take me where I can not stand, I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me. "

I agree completely... player driven content means get off your ass and do something about it yourself...
There has been far to much bleating to CCP about stuff that players can fix themselves. CCP has given you the tools: - Dscan - Probes: GTFO or man up and prepare for a hotdrop - No probes: Shoot rocks, rats... whatever floats your boat
And I seem to remember that AFK cloaking keeps the bots away

The point is, these players are cloaked. You can do nothing or you cannot do anything to find him. It is just like a tumor in your head, but your doctor told you that it is cloaked so he cannot find it.
I rarely do CA or mining, but it is quite hard to answer to new corp members what they can do else if those cloaked campers present. I really want to invite some more people who newly joine the game to enter null sec, but it is just too difficult.
It is not hard, it's just a matter of intell and people capable to make 2 neurons work together but yes, some initial instruction is needed (if you live in null and no one learned you how yet, then you're in the wrong alliance and you'll loose everything you have sooner than later) |
