I see a lot of setups for the apoc with pulses tech II combined with scorches. Of course on paper this looks like a charm, because of the bonus you get from the ship combined with that of scorch you get to score hits at 60 kms+ and you have dps you always dreamed of. It fits easy so tanking becomes a laugh as well... what more do you want.....
my question then is this. do you still mak a descent profit running this? Since loading your apoc with scorch will cost you 4 mil easily. Haven't run with tech 2's yet, and never counted my shots, so I don't know how long they last (a full mission?). But I do know that pulses fire faster then beams, so that will speed up the 'self destruction' process.
Hoping for some clarity,

Well for starters you don't use Scorch all the time. Try to get within MF range, and use scorch to pop the weaker, far away stuff (frigs, cruisers). Once you get to the better tanked stuff, you switch to MF and take advantage of the higher dps/tracking.
That in itself will greatly change how much you spend per mission.
But to give you an idea, you'll be hard pressed to find a paladin (with good skills) that doesn't use faction/T2 crystals all the time, so it must be worth it.

Edited by: Horus Dark on 19/05/2009 14:01:13 Edited by: Horus Dark on 19/05/2009 13:59:20 use amarr navy stuff. they last longer, can buy them with the LP you earn. And dont suffer tracking penalties.
Dps is only slightly less.
I usualy use AN mircowave for missions.
surely you dont want to get into MF range cause it would mean getting into range. witch sux on a slow movin bs.
on a paladin you generaly use beams. cause it doesnt have the range bonus the apoc has and your pulses wont cut it then.

Of course using LP stuff is a good solution. Also regarding the first reply didnt realize that with MF you still have 20 km+.. so indeed thats also a good idea.
Thanks for the replies.
PS: been away a good time, where and how can I spend my LP's? The time of mortals has come to an end. |

I use a Geddon for my mission running, and I use scorch's all the time, yea I have to replace them every 6-8 missions or so but meh, the amount of time it saves me is invaluable. And I use them for evertying 24km+ away.

When I ran missions in my Apoc I used Scorch on BC's and larger if they were over 40km out. For Cruisers and Frigs I used Infra which would volley frigs and make short work of Cruisers. AN Ultra covered all my midrange stuff and MF/AN MF made short work of the closer stuff.
All in all the Apoc can do great damage at any given range.

As some people said you don't use scorch all the time. But the time you use it.. it save you at least 50% of the mission completion time. Kill all the grigs and cruisers before they even get near you. When you finish the secodns Battlehsip ther rest of BS shoudl be around 20 km range and you switch to normal ammo. Yes it cost some isk. But its WAY worth.

Can you actually use t2 large beam lasers? Low sp players can instead use faction large beams (less fitting/less cap use/high dps): faction tachyons + amarr navy mfs = win
Sadly they were at about 85 mio isk last time i checked ^^
In some mission it makes sense to switch to amarr navy standards to pop the small stuff at 60+ km.

1000 shots for each scorch crystal on average (100 minimum, technically no maximum). I believe with each shot you take, the crystal has a 10% chance of gaining .01 damage. Once it reaches 1.00 damage, it will break.
Faction crystals however, gain .00025 damage every shot. 4000 shots per crystal every time.

For PVE purposes, you're actually much better off with Beams than with pulses.
Yes, the costs of the ammo do factor in, but that's not the real issue. Basically the real important thing is that beams w/faction multifreq will do greater DPS at those 40/50/60 km ranges than pulses w/scorch. Set your beams after the big stuff, and send your drones after the smaller stuff.
I know how it looks on eft... it sure looks like pulses are better, I felt the same way, but decided that I should time the missions and look at how much isk per hour I was earning before makeing the decision. With pulses, I was at 20 mil per hour, with beams, I was at 30 mil per hour. (including salvage and looting). Beams also were what pushed me into the >10mill per 20 min soley from bounties. I never quite crossed that line with pulses.
That was good enough for me.
I'm now training hard for the paladin, because those numbers were from a T2 mega beam fitted abaddon. The crazy numbers people sometimes say start to make sense to me now, because once I'm in a tach 2 fitted paladin, the dps is almost twice as high as I'm getting now. That's going to do some crazy things to the isk per hour rates.
That said, I do still switch out for pulses on the angel missions.

I used to do this on my Paladin but stopped because using Scorch against Angels takes forever D:
Well, compared to Tachs with AN MF anyway. __________________________________

The angels come in close, so it's MF on those pulses :)
