Are we allowed to upload 3D models of EVE ships to Shapeways for 3D printing?

It would just be too awesome to have an Incursus or Megathron on my desk. It's my birthday, and I wants it! (It actually is) |

Happy Birthday, man!! Do post pics of the Mega if you get through making it.
I second Bubanni. as long as you aren't selling it as your own IP, it would be alright i guess.
Also, what format are the 3d models? |

Well, the problem is that Shapeways has to sell it to me, so they are potentially making a profit off CCP copyrighted material. Also, thanks :-) |

Ah... I misunderstood. I was thinking perhaps you were uploading a model on your 3D printer using software by Shapeways. Well, hopefully you get a Vindicator on your Bday :) |

A 3d printed model would be a much more accurate representation of the in-game model, and could be painted to look much nicer than that. The disadvantage would be the fact that a similar cost model would be about half as long, 3d printing prices increase exponentially with size / mass. TEST Alliance BEST Alliance |

Much cheaper alternative.
Pay attention to materials and the size of the smallest parts. You want things to be at least 1mm thick, so it may require cutting parts off or thickening them in a model editing suite. Prime Grey is probably the best bet for a model (smooth, detailed, cheap), polyamide is less detailed but I believe a bit cheaper (it has a rough surface). Print in gold or even titanium if you feel insane and have more money than sense. Paintable Resin if you are willing to pay cash for a damn perfect looking model to paint, but don't care much about structural strength (its a display model somewhere it won't fall).
Here's detailed material info. TEST Alliance BEST Alliance |

You know what man, unless the company you're going to is asking for permission from the rights holder then just do it. Not like there's a CCP agent hiding in a bowl of rice over there waiting for the opportunity to catch you.
If they are asking for permission from the rights holder then you're probably going to have a hard time convincing CCP to allow you to do such when they have ship models on sale in their eve store....um.....merchandising. That they have a crappy selection won't get you any cudos. We want breast augmentations and sluttier clothing in the NeX! |

if your serious just give them a call. Don't post in the forum for their game. Their lawyers are not in their game development or community teams. |

You might be disappointed with what you get, if you're just planning to submit the model file from the game. Much of the detail on an EVE ship is rendered using normal and specularity maps -- which, to my knowledge, would not be used by a printer. You'd just get a simplified Megathron-shaped object.
To get a good looking model, you'd need to work those details into the geometry. It's likely that CCP has these high-resolution models of the ships, but we don't have access to them. |

I've been looking a bit at the models I've extracted from the game. Gonna have to shape them up a bit in 3DS Max before I go ahead and get it printed. Should be very doable tho. |

I would say it is probably ok if, and this is key, it is for PRIVATE, Non-PROFIT use.
CCP has endorsed extracting 3d meshes (I'm thinking Ti-Exporter here) but since the models are CCP's intellectual property, I'd be very careful with that final 3-d model.
Also, I'd definitely try to get an explicit endorsement instead of waiting for our input, though it is probably going to be hard to come by. The Irukandji is recruiting PVP pilots! APPLY NAO. You won't regret it. See our info at : -áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=70811&find=unread |
