So, like every reborn noob coming back to the game after a long while absent, I wants to get me a POS up and running to explore some of the new stuff you can do in EVE. Charters, anchoring, lots of isk, no prob, easy to run missions for cash and LP's and stuff for a good bit of the resources needed. But ICE. Hmmm. Need ready supply of ice for various functions. No biggy, really. A bit of a training deviation for about a week or two and you can have a happy ice miner.
K?
Holy CRAP!!! Ice processing? Have to be a GOD of industry to process ice? Why do you have to train for like close to a month just to process ICE? Am I seeing the skills wrong, or is it really pretty insane to process my own ICE?

i am not sure but i believe that "ice processing" is only needed for processing ice at your own pos.
you can process ice at npcstations without that skill
but maybe i am wrong.

If you really want perfect reprocessing, yeah. What's the problem ? Besides, you shouldn't really mine and reprocess ice at all in the first place, it's horribly ineffective ISK/hour-wise... just buy the products directly from the market instead.

^this. You'll earn less than 1/3rd the ISK/hour that you would mining ore. Much more efficicent to mine ore, sell the ore/mins and use that to buy your fuel.

Actually, they don't, as most fit paper-thin Mackinaws without any tank. Harvesting them is faster than harvesting ice yourself.

Generally you're correct. Ice processing behaves like the ore processing skills in that it improves the refine waste a poorer stations and 0.0 outposts.
To be honest, the only uses for the skill are at 0.0 outposts and to run compression jobs on a rorqual.

This, strangely. It's a guilty pleasure... I know it's wrong, but isotopes are soooo cheap and this way I don't have to sink a month into Ice Processing.
Don't have to mine ice either for that matter. Ice mining is like somebody at CCP looked at regular mining and said, "You know I think I could be a lot more bored than this." Ice mining is almost as bad as setting up the POS in the first place.
