Your new effects, nearly all of them, are rubbish. I understand the need for speed but it's not the complexity so much as some are just plain crap.
I'm sitting in a mission, I'm being warped scrambled, I'm being nossed and eccm'd.
I can barely make out what any of the effects are supposed to be whatsoever, even if I look hard, no idea what ship is doing what to me really.
I've fought dozens of times since the effects update, on the tranquility and singularity, I still don't have the faintest idea what the warp disruption beam actually looks like now or the ability to tell when I'm being warp scrambled without looking at the overview.
Lasers look more like paint lines then a flourescant beam from a distance, maybe it's because I turned bloom off to stop things like sensor boosters making my eyes bleed.
Then the best of it all is I turn on an ECCM module and I've got some crappy effect rotating around with the camera with me like I'm back to around 15 years ago playing Castle Wolfenstein.
Put on top of that the sound level for different ingame effects are way out of line with each other and there are still some such as pulse laser hits which will sound off a maximum volume, quiet turrets or not if they're even on the same grid.
The turrets firing and their sounds do seem to actually be in sync though so good job with that if you've changed things.
I would just like to know if there's any plans to be any decent changes to graphics again?
I've heard things about particle effects systems and such that you've been working on and I'm sorta hoping that maybe (hoping) that you only stuck not so great effects in for when it all get's renovated some time in the future with new technology?

Seriously, do you ever stop complaining? I don't recall you ever posting anything positive. Why do you stay when the game obviously makes you so miserable?

agreed, that sensor booster and eccm is retarted and wtf happened to awesome cyno. I like autocannons and lazers though, hardners and repair graphics are uber retarted, even more so then the guy posting after me

turned on my effects a few days ago when flying a dread. what a mistake, the sensor booster effect is completely ridiculous.

I think if nothing else, just about everyone misses the old cyno effect. Before the change when a hundred man capblob jumped in, it looked epic. Making it some crappy ripple effect has taken all the pantomime out of hot-drops

The new webber effect? Uh, I can't even tell you what it looks like - just never noticed it.
New neuts? The same. My cap goes out and that's it. Knowing the fact you're capping out, you might actually notice some waved beam or whatever it is atm. But it should be exactly vice versa!
You simply have to pay too much damn attention to your own ship to notice these effects! That's unacceptable. You want to look at the entire battlefield, not just at your own ship. So the effects are to be clearly distinguishable.
Can you ever imagine road signes being designed the way EVE EWar effects are? ---

I made this thread around a week ago when in a bad mood.
I feel guilty someone necro'd it and now it's at the top of the page for CCP to read as the OP is a bit unfair.
There are certainly points to the graphics though sure, mainly the effects that are practically invisible.

The only ones I hate are eccm and sensor boosting. Every time someone turns them on my whole entire screen is blotted out with some ugly ass 2d spiderweb and I have to zoom out to 300km to even see where the hell I'm going.
Why is it that the effects for vital information like webbing and warp disruption are so subtle you can barely see them but something as insignificant as sensor boosting is broadcast so loudly that it blinds everything in the vicinity? It makes no bloody sense.

Old effects where nice. Have to agree with Sensor Booster graphic, looks terrible. Especially when your in a gang of 200, just one big white fuzz.

I'd much prefer the previous sensor booster, the one that looked like a subtle sensor/radar scan.
ECCM is absolutely foul, combined with a sensor booster it is just horrid to see in space.

All in all, old effects were much better, with only few exceptions (stargate, tractor/salvager, maybe some more I cannot recall atm). I do miss a lot of things already mentioned above, plus that cool deadspace jumpgate slingshot which is now replaced with something... well, I cannot tell what it is because I cannot see the darn thing.
Oh and station interiors are still depressing and lifeless.

Yep, the new effects are pretty poor, they're either barely visible, skip animations (c.f. webifiers) or are obnoxious to look at.
There are plenty of visuals that need some love and attention (station interiors, planets, system backgrounds), yet stuff that doesn't need fixing (warp effects in particular) seems to have been the priority lately.
I've been wondering what the next EVE "expansion" will hold; hopefully a nice graphical overhaul to follow up the (fantastic) job done on ship models and whatnot.

They should add a "report" that shows who has what module activated on you (ewar etc), sort of like an extra overview if you want to find out who is doing what to you.

Confirming these effect are the ones need changing. Some of the others could use some more effects since they are hard to spot, but personally I like the Web, Scram and NOS/Neut effect. Just need to be seen more. Grek Forto Yarring Blog |

Sensor boosting effect hurts my eyes and its very dominating and distracting... Old one was way better.
Warp effect is too fancy, too much...*LIGHTNING BOLT*! Make it a steady stream aimed at the target ship. Web effect needs its own effect, not use the Wormhole one. ECCM is just plain crazy. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Yeah I have to agree with the most of the posts here. The only effect I like now is the repair effect, the rest are "rather dubious" even the salvager effect looks like some kind of tractor beam.

Overall the new effects are a massive improvement but I ahve to agree that the Sensor Booster effect is just terible, it makes my ship look like its glowing with heavenly light, not like its sensor systems are being augumented... its just not sci-fi enough. Im sure it would be great in a fantasy game but it deseratly needs changing as it just dosnt fit, why not just give us a toned down version of the old ringed effect?

Had wanted to post on this topic myself a few days ago... totally agree with the Op here - was sitting outside Jita station and a bunch of ppl were battling it out. Saw some of the new effects (like drone lasers, etc.) but nearly everyone had the same effect showing on their ships... you can't tell what anyone is doing or what they're fitting now. In the past you could look around and say, "ok... he's armor repping, he's boosing his sensors", etc. Nowadays, it's more like, ok, well, I guess he's fitting something so I'll just start shooting. The game really needs some finer touches and differentiation on effects. There's hundreds of modules out there - would be great to be able to visually see who is using what during fleet fights via some more obvious/different particle effects (at least to some degree). |

In other words, I'd be happy if they would revert to the old effects, but not at the cost of client locking up after jumping through gate, broken probing filters or something similar.
P.S. Feel a bit more like ranting, my personal un-favourites are ECCM (I mean ffs wtf is that supposed to be), sensor booster, web and warp disruption effects. Nos/neut actually imho look rather cool, I just don't get which is which yet. Autocannons are also quite nice actually. And yes, the new cyno is just plain terrible.
