Edited by: Faife on 26/05/2009 15:23:30 what's funny is when i posted a thing on grid manipulation into GD about a year ago, the thread got deleted and i got a friendly email from the mods telling me to stop discussing exploits.
but i guess it's ok now, nbd.

Originally by: Super Whopper There is nothing informative about this. Goons are just whining because others (notably AAA?) are using this ancient mechanic far more effectively than these Goons.
Solution: whine and spam in the hope it's changed so nobody can use it. After all that's the attitude of the abuser in a relationship: "If I can't have you, then nobody can."

A lack of action does not imply that it's officially supported. Grid manipulation is a clear exploit by every definition of the word. The document posted gives a good insight into the mechanics behind it and it's fascinating that players have worked all this out but if grids can be manipulated to the advantage of one party, it's nothing short of an exploit.

So I warped @ hundred to a gate, nothing there. Warps off, warps at zero, get caught in a bubble and lolhammered by a fleet of about 30-40. This in less than two minutes.
Did I just get grid-fu'd or was I just unlucky?
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. |

But you realize that you can counter grid manipulation and turn it into your favour?
How is that an exploit? It is just good preparation.
Maybe next time people will yell, scream and whine about making strategic bookmarks for warpins or sending covert ops ships to scout?
Grid manipulations is a wonderful, exciting and powerful element of good battle preparation.
Of course the clueless noob who just pushes F1 is always at some disadvantage against people who carefully plan the battle and try to swing the odds into their favour. And care to explain what is wrong with that??
Why shouldn't careful preparation which also needs some skills (and which could be counteracted if necessary) lead to some advantage?

Call it preparation if you like but 99% of players don't know about this. It's unintended use of a core game mechanic to gain an advantage over other players. By definition, unintended use is abuse and when game mechanics are abused to gain an advantage over other players, that fits the definition of an exploit.
