2 accounts on one PC. This is what Ive tried:
Original eve folder on D: Made a copy of eve folder and renamed to eve2 on D:
The above worked fine the first time I tried it on Monday night and had a swinging time mining. Then the next morning it wouldnt work. The Original file would just get as far as a little box called eve on my taskbar with a lot of disk activity for a bit, then nothing. The copy (eve2) worked fine!
Now it gets wierder
This morning I removed the duff folder, then patched the game, and checked I can log in fine. I then exited game and copied the eve folder to my C: drive this time and called it eve2.
I can now log in with the eve2 one, but the original (which worked ok 10 mins ago) just partially starts and drops to taskbar. clicking it does nothing.
I've also tried renaming the .exe file to eve2.exe in case that solves it but no joy. I'm really desperate here as I've now experienced the joys of dual accounts.

What.... simply copying a gamefolder is not exactly the smartest thing to do, there is a lot of regkeys etc and having thesame program installed twice works very very rarely and just trying could crash the register.
Simply have ONE client installed and start it TWICE. i have only one eve client installed and i run 5 chars, i simply start the one client 5 times and when they are on i can change settings individually, they are independent then. Having two clients installed is just 100% fail from the start. No program is supposed to work like that.

Well, actaully installing 2 cleitns is teh only way it works for some people.
Also copying the client directory is ok to do, not many registy keys are lost and will cause no problems. It simply means the computer does not know you have a second install. It works perfectly.
Since accessing the same file in documents and settings can cause problems with UI and settings, very often doing that can result in sluggish performance and crashes.
For the first Client, press ALT + ENTER when it hits the taskabar, that should bring it back to life.

Well I did a bit of looking about on how to run 2 accounts before I did it, and the copying of the folder seemed to be the only one people were swearing by as working.
I'd have thought starting the game up twice either wouldnt have worked at all or would have caused a fatal error....but I'll give it a go.
The only other thought is to actually download the game a second time & install to a different drive which may sort out any registry issues.

Both ways work fine. No registry problems occur by copying the install.
For best performance, use 2 seperate hard drive for each client.
Though it will probably be your GPU which strains the most on 2 clients on the same drive. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |
