Is there any ways to level a skill faster than the learning skill? I am ready to level my Astrogeology to level 5 and it's gonna be 30 days!!!

Set the skill then drink 2 bottles of cognac, when/if you wake up it'll seem faster

Implants will help you, as will neural remapping.
Get the EVEMon tool, it's invaluable in terms of sorting out your training schedule for the next 12 months.

there's a set of implants that boost attributes.
Neural remapping lets you change your attributes around.

Oh, and neural remapping is only available once every 12 months, though new characters get a "free" remap - I'm not sure if the cooldown is only 6 months but the idea is that you can try to optimise your new characters for fast training in the first six months.

Implants are the only other way that lets you keep the pilot, but they're not much faster either. The much faster alternative is to make a lot of ISK and buy a high SP pilot.

Just to be sure I am going to assume you meant 'learning skills". As in, you DID train up your attribute skills right?

I'm a relatively new player, and I was given 2 remaps. I could use the second immediately after the first, and then after the second, it goes into the normal countdown.

I have around a week old character. How do I use my neural remap? Will I just be maxing out my intelligence and memory?
I already completed 4 of the Learning Skills to level 4, Analytical Mind, Instant Recall, Learning, and Spatial Awareness.

Unlike most MMOGs out there, the actions you take in any given gameplay session are largely unrelated to your progression. It doesn't matter if you spend the night killing rats or hauling ore, your training will be the same. So you can't go kill bigger rats, or haul better ore in order to speed things up.
All training happens in realtime.
A skill will cost -X- SP for a given rank, and work off of attributes -A- and -B-. As you train that skill you generate skillpoints every second based on how many points you have in attributes -A- and -B-. The more points you have in those attributes, the faster you generate SP, the faster your skill trains.
There are basically three ways to change/improve how many points you have in any attribute.
1) Learning Skills. The basic "Learning" skill gives you a 2% bonus per rank across the board... The individual learning skills (Analytical Mind, Clarity, Eidetic Memory, Empathy, etc.) give you bonuses to your attributes.
2) Implants. You can purchase cybernetic implants that add bonuses to your attributes.
3) Remapping. Once a year you can re-map your attributes. You can choose to take points out of Charisma, for example, if you aren't training any skills for a while that need it. Or if you're on a big electronics kick you might want to dump a bunch into Intelligence. New characters get 1 free remap. After that there's a 12-month cooldown... So make sure you choose carefully.
There's a good guide on the Evelopedia... I'm not sure how up to date it is... But most of it still applies.

What you really want to do is download EVEMon and put together a training plan that will take a year or so. Then have EVEMon calculate where your attributes should be and remap accordingly.
Intelligence and Memory are good for some types of skills like industry and engineering... But they aren't so helpful for spaceship command or gunnery...
You've got a free remap, so it might make sense to max Intelligence and Memory just long enough to get your learning skills up... But maybe not. A lot of that is going to depend on what you're aiming for in the long-run. Which is where EVEMon can be very helpful.

I've got EveMon downloaded, but I'm unsure of how to develop a plan for a year out and get started on it. Right now, I looked at the Certs in-game and I'm training the skills necessary to get the drone certs. I've complete all 3 career tutorial missions and I'm now beginning the epic arc missions.
I looked on battleclinic for a loadout idea, but didn't really understand what I was doing.

Pick a ship on loadout and import the skillplan into Evemon. Note that this will only give you the REQUIRED skills to fly that ship with that fitting. To actually be able to fly that ship anywhere close to decently, you will need to learn to use the necessary support skills. For example : You wanna fly something with long range guns on it ? Then you want sharpshooter skill, motion prediction is always good, etc etc. For drones for example : It is nice if you can use 5 drones with drones L5, but if you train drone interfacing to L4 you will get 80% (!!!) more DPS out of them. This is not a required drone skill however. So you will have to do your homework. --- Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie |

Interesting... Thanks... I guess I'll try to find some information on drones and start from there... then find a loadout I like. Once I import the plan, can I modify it to inject some of those unnecessary skills that make you more efficient?

Edited by: Ms Delerium on 27/05/2009 13:54:11 - Your attributes must suck, no offence. Astrogeology lvl 5 with average/good skills and implants must take around 10-12 days.
- Train your Cybernetics skill to lvl 1 and plug in "Basic" named implants (+3 points per attribute) for every attribute except Charisma.
- Train all your learning skills to level 4. Once that, purchase advanced learning skills (browse the markets): logic, eidetic memory, focus, and clarity. Train them to level 3 or maybe 4.
- Remap: I suggest max intelligence and memory as you seem to be a industry oriented pilot. But, warning!!! the Hulk require another skill called Mining Barge lvl V which will take about twice or even 3x times the Astrogeology V time and it requires Perception and Willpower so...

I think it took me 20 days. I did not train it 20 days straight though. I would train other stuff for one day, and switch back for one day.

I let EVEmon choose my attributes. Has worked well. I'm 3c/13i/9p/8m/6w but I started about two weeks before the minimum was 5.
Mining Barge 5 is easier to train than Astrogeology simply because Mining Barge 3 will get you into a Retriever
