Pew pew fans who love numbers will absolutely love CCP Diagoras's newest dev blog, which details the number of ships that have been destroyed in PvP since January 2008. You can view the graph goodness here.

Very interesting, would be interesting to know how many are owned vs blown too.
And if I may say, very very very poor choice of color, nearly a contest in how unreadable one can make a graph :p

Loved the devblog. Hated the colours.
It's also nice to see the R&S team actually publishing something again.

Quote: Interestingly, the interceptors of all races have gained a lot of popularity in recent months, after balancing changes with the Quantum Rise expansion in November 2008.
Intrestingly, the graph does not show a rise in popularity of 'ceptors, sicne the QR changes in November 2008. All the graph shows is an increase in 'ceptors dying since that expansion....(sarcasim on)...I wonder what nerf happened then :P
Quote: As we are sure you will all be glad to hear, the QEN for Quarter 1 2009 is in its final stages and should be published within the next week.
Are we not still "owed" a QEN or two from 2008? It has been so long maybe I am mistaken, but I sure seem to recall a few in 2008 being tardy at this time.

Some better colors for the graphs would be great. It's very hard to read them. ----------------------------------------------

"What would you like to see?"
All and everything!! Maybe also (if possible) a graph about ships killed in 0.0, low sec and high sec. Also maybe a number of ALL ships killed and not just those killed in pvp.
But uhm ... colors are difficult to read. But please not screaming bright colours now, just a bit more differences
Thanks!

Very interesting information. Thanks for posting CCP!
Only suggestion is, although I am partial to blue, I believe using more distinctive primary colors (in addition to white) would have made the graphs easier to read.

I suggest using different coloured lines next time.
When I had to spend more time figuring out which line was which than processing the actual information the graph contained, I just closed the blog.
Was probably quite interesting but was ruined by poor presentation.
Do you even proof read these blogs?
A split of high/low/0.0 stats would be of interest as would the split of ships by character age; but strictly only if different coloured lines are used.

I'd like to see a graph showing the number of characters against the amount of skill points they have.
Would that be a frequency distribution curve?
But a bar chart would do.

This makes the data junky in me frustrated.
a) Why are you trying to show the correlations using such horrible axes? Seeing as the number of ships never drops below 125k or rises above 225k it would the graph easier to read if you didn't waste half the axis. In fact, if you're going to show a correlation its better just to plot ships destroyed vs subscriber.
b) Those colours are barely distinguishable. I can only tell what they are by assuming that most ships destroyed are Caldari and least Minmatar.

Yes, very nice to see graphs like that :)
And even though I do understand color themes, for the love of god use the whole spectrum! Red, Green, Blue, Yellow are four excellent colors and much more easily distinguished than blue, blue-light, blue-white and not-quite-white-still-contains-blue

See! Gallente is underpowered!
Could you make a graph showing the percentage of battleships destroyed out of the total number of battleships per race, per month? And the same for other ship classes?

I love the graphs, but please use more spectrum (ROYGBIV) in the future. I was going cross-eyed at some of those graphs.
I'd like to see high/low/0.0 stats.

thank you so much for releasing these numbers. In the absence of official kill boards this blog is essentially the only means of determining activity and balance for us and opinionated people.
also I can't help but notice how minmatar BS are falling behind in popularity especially since losses are reflective of activity. on the game development forums mini BS have become a recurring issue..... please save us from our own duck tape.

Edited by: Fastercart on 27/05/2009 16:34:07 I just wanted to suggest for racial colors, just go with traditional gold, blue, green, and red. Everyone can follow those at least without having to look at legends.

QEN needs to include a detailed analysis of ISK fountains/sinks/inflation, instead of beating around the bush.
Show us with hard numbers where most of the ISK comes from, and where it goes.

Very nice. Next time, no blue on blue on blue on blue on blue graphs please.
If you're trying to make a graph that doesn't have colors that screw with the color blind, make the lines with dashes, dots and s so on.
half of the numbers I can't figure out because I can't see the difference between the light blue, the light light blue, the blue light, and the blue light light.

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS...
instead of just presenting us numbers, I want Dr Ejyo to actually INTERPRET the data and what HE actually thinks that means for the economy and what results he is and what he is advising the game balancing crew to do.

There's a disturbing lack of pink.
