Can a nighthawk solo against their damage types or is it only possible against thermal/kinetic npcs?

Can nighthawks solo any lvl 5 missions?
Also, to partially answer your question, I use the Nighthawk against class 4 sleeper systems. So I am omni tanking.. getting about 1000 dps passive tank and still able to fit a BCU II. Not sure if that good is good enough for lvl 5, but i never even knew a lvl 5 could be done with NH. Thats awesome new if so.

odd as it may sound the angel ones have nuet towers ... lots of them ... so you would have to go completely passive ...
it can be done not cheaply
try using a vulture to tank it and other ships to kill it

may be able to cut it but not 100% sure i use an ishtar and only do kin/therm lvl 5s

Edited by: Contralto on 31/05/2009 05:32:52 Angel missions are the toughest to tank, Of the passive tankers I use, the Vulture has the strongest tank but weak damage,The Nighthawk's tank is inferior to the Vulture but it has missile bonuses so can take care of cruiser and frig swarms more effectively Both field 5 lights to help in that task.
A less common solution is the Onyx (or Broadsword) its tank is lower than either of the above but it has a considerably lower sig and a much higher base speed which compensates. Stasis towers remove the latter unfortunately. For me The Onyx is just a fun ship to zoom around avoiding the missile swarms, its lack of Drones and vulnerability to losing its speed tank means it takes second place to the Nighthawk. Missile damage is great for the frigs though putting it slightly ahead of the Vulture for all but Angels.
I tried to tank "Wrath of Angels" with the Vulture fitted with Pith A-type hardeners, Shield harmonizing and Sig reducing Command links with Shield Mindlink in gang, Pilot has all lvl V passive shield skills. The Shields steadily dropped and past the point of no return 30%, had to warp out.
The Vulture was webbed but not scrammed so managed to get out intact, but I was too slow to warp the kronos, so lost it to a pair of Scramming Elite frigs, I run the kronos with a minimal tank and max damage output (4 x magstabs) hence its fast demise.
Completed the mission after fitting Transporters on the kronos.
All three of the above passive tankers rarely drop below 70% shields on all the other racial damage types including Amarr and Sansha
tldr, I dont believe any ship can solo Wrath of Angels (other Angel missions have been hard but doable) Gang bonus and remote repping are the way to go.

Edited by: Bloody Rabbit on 31/05/2009 05:57:42 I just lost my Nighthawk with T2 shield extender rigs and deadspace passive EX, EM and therm; I lost the ship in the time that it warped in and the repair golem warped in.
Which then the golem was killed. So good luck with the minmatar level 5 missions as I have had nothing but pain from those missions.

I have tanked several Level 5s with my NH in Minmatar space. Some against Angels, some against Amarr and Caldari navies. It is not ideal, but it can do it. A Broadsword might be a better choice for a tank. I don't advocate soloing L5 missions in any ship. Every time I have used a fully passive NH to tank it and brought in a couple of other ships for more DPS to speed the job up.
...this doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

Did you have a low rack full of spr iis? Do you think a DC ii would've kept you alive long enough for the golem to start repping?

yea the lows were all T2 SPR, I didn't fit the DCU as there is no energy with 3 towers sucking. DCU does use energy, only 1 but that is still energy that you won't have.

You gotta get Really unlucky with the neuts towers if they cycle drain your cap so good that you don't have 1 single cap when it's time to use it and if so just spam the button.
Still, people get really unlucky all the time and without having eft in front of me I wouldn't be suprised if the SPR II you switch it for actually adds more.
This was the long version of "I would fit it like you but for other reasons".
On topic minimatar is evil and I haven't seen a setup yet I would feel comfortable bringing solo and I've looked around. Feel free to correct me. And the first setup posted was poor.CNR launchers with faction ammo, third hardner instead of shield recharger, spr II's in lows, rigs needs to be II's. With this setup I Still wouldn't bring it but it would be alot better atleast.

The true issue with a level five is local. your in low sec and flying two bil fitted ships. Level 5s are great for pirates they find you scarm you and help the npcs break your tank.
fly with support or aligned.

Not really an issue if done right. Most people who solo L5's run the missions in hisec with their 2B ISK ships, not in losec. It's just a matter of waiting until you get a mission in a nearby hisec system, then running it there in relative safety.

And having 5 different chars with standings that can ask for missions with the local lvl 5 agent helps speed up the wait to get one in high sec.
