Yeah but then you'll get a metric ton of threads in GD with men complaining that other men are playing with female avatars and they find it disturbing.
Oh wait.....

What the heck is this whole Twilight thing anyway?
The last girlpanty-wetting series I had the misfortune to know about were those Anita Blake thingamajigs that do not even deserve to be put on toilet paper.

heh. I guess i'd better dust off the Malkavian.
This is a growing gamer segment, and if CCP offers something more tuned to the average member of that demo than the 14-year-old WoW-grind, they win. Also, bringing them here will provide more vic- players for many of our established groups, out of which a few Darwinistic winners will surprise you with their ferocity. On, social experiments, on!

WoD was (is?) a great game, but that was mostly due to its focus on roleplaying. I wonder what the great appeal will be putting it online in computer game form. Roleplaying is somthing computer games are least suited to after all.
Also that reporter is thinking candy rainbows and fluffy marshmellows, which is roughly the polar opposite of either of the WoD settings.
Off topic, I'm glad to hear they (CCP) are going to remain independant. (WTF is with that article? It's all over the place)

I REEEEEEALLY hope this game is a good one. If it's dull **** like WoW I'm gonna be ****ed! I wanna make my Brujah come to life, not force him to grind goblins for an epic belt.

Given the source, the developer, and the goal (social orientation) its extremely unlikely to be like WoW.

It's a great game but it has the worst fanbase of any pnp on the market. I'd rather let a 'furry pirates' player into my group than a WoD fan.

1. Go to WoD forum 2. Pick any long thread (like 3-5 pages or more) 3. Count the number of male and female posters in the thread (it is shown next to the avatar of the poster by a small icon)
=> WoD is SO going to fail ...

Depends on why you've never griefed actual girls before. It might be because they're rare in EVE, but maybe, just maybe, they're too wily to be scammed by GHSC? ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |

Imagine if the game succeeded with the Twilight Groupies. Imagine what a group load of Goonies would do to the Twilight Girls. Apart from having Avatars that look like pimps or trashy sex workers. It will only be a matter of time before their is a Dr Phil episode on "Goonies, Internet monsters" |

Attracting a female player base to MMO's has my vote, and WoD seems like as good a genre to do it in - I remember an early days CCP interview where the lack of female players in Eve was explained along the lines of 'it's a game about spaceships and trading - how would you attract more women to it?' . Got no problem with romance storylines in a vampire game either - after all, Dracula did it long before World of Darkness, and Ann Rice's Lestat stories, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer even; don't think any of them suffered from including romance plotlines and appealing to women. I just trust that CCP will be wise enough to stick with the WoD background fiction and atmosphere and not be tempted to do the Twilight thing. |

"CCP Games has been profitable since 2004, but all profits are currently being reinvested in Eve Online and also into creating World of Darkness, a new online subscription game about vampires targeting an 18-25-year-old, female demographic. "
Apparently quests will involve falling love with a vampire, and romancing with him =P
.
Sign me up!
although if it turns into "twilight online" im gonna lose all respect for CCP.

You know, peering deep into the future, I get this image:
Isty's at the CCP fan fest in Vegas, suited up and slick as hell, but looking like he's been at it for about 30 hours. In one hand a mostly empty bottle of Grey Goose, the other hand is snot-encrusted blow leftovers. He's falling to his knees in moderate surprise as three Hispanic-Irish women, eye-liner and all, from the WoD game are stabbing him to death with broken mirror shards and letter openers. While this is happening he's laughing maniacally and cursing in Polish, probably something about girls having the balls to do this, asking someone to document this for his next CSM run as an "experience reference", or that this is the second time this has happened.
It's probably the most enviable end I can think of. |

Dracula was a classic bit of literature. Interview With The Vampire was good, but did descend a bit too much into the gothic cliche. Buffy was teenage girl television, and meant well with having a female action character, but suffered a lot from the limitation of its media. There were a few episodes I saw I thought were quite good, though (like some smiley sound-dampening demons).
Twilight has taken the emo-gothic from Anne Rice's work and mixed it with the teen appeal of Buffy to create a bastardised child fathered by corporate demographics, and lacks any kind of creative soul. So often do executives wheel out the most predictable, brainless mush in the assumption we will greedily swallow any swill they churn out, and so often are they proved right.
Let's hope the game retains the seductive darkness of novels like Dracula, rather than the brightly-illuminated and barely-disguised teenage girl photo-strip. |
