Edited by: KAMIKAZE TRON on 31/05/2009 20:23:34 I have been running 3 clients for months now with no problems. I have windows vista 32, 3 gig ram and use a geforce xfx 8600gt.
Since the last patch I keep getting BSOD when running more than one account, everything seems to run fine than 5 minutes later, BSOD and computer restarts. I have tryed re installing drivers. Once crash caused my computer to tell me afterwards I had no audio hardware installed so I had to re install my audio drivers...
Another crash casued my eve files to corrupt so I had to do a full re install....
This all happening since the last patch. The rest I have all seemed to fix but still I am unable to run multiple clients.....
I am also now being told that it is possible eve has killed my graphics card due to bugs and glitches with the game and ccp always screwing up.....
Anyone got any ideas? Like I said I had no problem for months now suddenly since last patch all this happens....

Seems eve has killed my just over one month old graphics card....thankyou ccp.
Taken graphics card out, now running 3 clients using onboard graphics, it runs fine, like a fricking slide show but no more BSOD.
I have never had a problem with eve until the last patch and now that has killed my brand new graphics card.
Anyone else getting this problem? I mean whats the point in getting another graphics card if eve is just going to total that one too?
Bk to crappy onboard graphics and rubbish slow pvp I guess.....cheers.

EVE is like a stresstest for your hardware... if you get bluescreens and burnouts, then it means MOST of the time your hardware has issues. Clean fans and stuff.
I actually run a bit cooler when i run 2 clients on 2 monitors than 1 client on 1 monitor... dont ask why :-/

EVE didnt kill your graphics card, it simply pushed it to a limit which it should be able to handle, which most games do not.
Inadequate cooling is usually the main issue for people with EVE, whether it be dust buildup inside the terribly designed heatsinks some cards have, or another common cause is the fan just not speeding up via the vga bios settings quick enough to prevent heat damage occuring at extreme loads. EVE does put heavy load on your graphics card, as much as it can do, as any game should but most dont, you cant blame EVE for using a resource available to it.
Personally id RMA your card back to XFX.
Using Vsync is a common option in EVE to lower your temperatures slightly, no point rendering more frames than your monitor can display.
Whoever told you bugs and glitches in eve did it is a muppet and id reccomend you take zero technical advice from them ever.

Did I mention I had never had a problem until the last patch? Oh yes I think I did. Did I mention my graphics card is dead now. Oh yes I think I did. Did I mention all the problems are with eve. Oh yes I think I did. Is my graphics card permenently damaged because of it. Oh yes I think it is.
Before the last patch I was in some of the biggest cap fights in eve running 3 clients with no problems what so ever and my system was barely "tested" to its max. So please don't gimme that eve test your stuff to max crap coz its a load of bull.
I will try and get the G-card replaced under warranty but tbh whats the point if eve will just mess up another card?

Well, seeing that one of the main responsibilities of a owning a graphics card is ensuring it doesn't burn itself up. ANY game can do this, some cards have better control abilities to burning up, by shutting off when getting too hot. This usually results in either a windows error or a BSOD/driver error.
04/5 top range cards never were built to run above 60/75fps and games in that era ( half life 2 and far cry 1) never were able to be run at a better fps. Today with teh 9800GX2 and 295 an 4890 can run those games above 200fps. EVE is no exception, when your card is runnign aobve 150/200fps it will generate a lot of heat. If it is a odler chipset it will either not shut off quick enough or burn itself out.
This is usaully done by a card running quite easy but intensive graphics rendering, low level HDR, shading, simple shadows. All of which the Trinity and SM2 move engine has brought in.
Although replacement is possible, it is up to you to look after such powerful hardware (powerful by meaning anything post 05) by getting after market cooling, Vertical syncing, auto-shutoff procedures and temperature monitors.
To prevent this EVER happening again put V-Sync forced in teh driver software or interval 1 in teh EVE client.
Vertical Sync is you friend ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

EVE does stress the GPU yes, which makes it work harder. But that on its own really does not kill a GPU.
Here's the problem: you have an Nvidia 8 series GPU, which has a set of factory faults which result into dramatic hardware failure.
The same applies also to the 7 series, and according to the latest lawsuit information also to at least several batches of the 9 series.
In your case, the 8 series, the chipset basically burns itself out. Google is your friend. EVE does push our GPU's in ways that perhaps are not entirely healthy because of those complex instruction sets BUT Nvidia built faulty GPU's year after year, knowingly, where the poor material choice and bad epoxy choice and in the 8 series's case bad ram choice leads to a gradual build up of heat damage (irrelevant of how well you cool it), and ultimately hardware failure.

nonono.. just lets ignore all the facts and just blame eve for the broken vidcard, its much easier.
who cares abotu dusty fans, bad air circulation, wrong drivers, faulty cards.
ITS EVE goddamnit ^^

I love it when people don't listen.
Fans are clear, all drivers current and checked and reinstalled. Oh and its not the hardware as I have never had a problem until the very latest patch. Before that months without problems. Oh and only had problems with eve. All clients were always on interval 1 and v sync was used. Please bother to read all posts rather than re telling me things I have already said.
All clients run at minimum graphics and all effect off and settings at low or none. Only time that is changed is when running one client. Again no problems until the last patch.
Appreciated.

The "no problems until last patch" sounds like pure coincidence, the last patch hardly changed anything and afaik there were no graphics changes at all. Sounds like your card was faulty to begin with and just picked this moment to give up on life.
No game can break a card, if a card breaks it's due to faulty hardware or faulty drivers because a game is not responsible for a graphics card's health. A game's only worry is pushing as many frames through the card as the drivers and hardware will allow, all games do this.
EVE just happens to be more aggressive about it than other games, because it's not unusual to run 2 or more instances of EVE. That's why you should always have your clients set to Interval One in the graphics options, which limits them to 60 frames per second and takes a lot of stress off your video card.

we did mention that the series 8 of geforce has some hardware issues to begin with (some of them at least), and you happen to have one...
