Edited by: Pesets on 01/06/2009 14:19:18 While i'm in random suggestions mode... Make killmails erasable. I believe it will make PvP better. Seriously, they're notifications which tell you what you killed or what killed you. There's no practical reason to have them for the rest of your life. Yes, they are only seen by yourself, and don't really have any in-game effect, but being able to make a permanent mark on someone else's account is kinda overpowered. It puts emphasis on the killmails which they don't really merit, especially considering how easy it is to get killed in this game. Many people seem to be seriously hung up on them.
For one thing, it isn't even balanced. Even if you're 100% careful you can't avoid getting a lossmail, because one day you're guaranteed to get lagged out, get stuck in a collidable structure with collision box ten times its own size, or die to something equally ridiculous. But getting a killmail (as opposed to lossmail) is much less likely. You don't get killmails for PvE, even for sleepers, but you do get PvE lossmails. Only one person out of the whole gang gets the killmail (while anyone in a gang can be killed); support roles (tacklers, ewar) have virtually no chance to get the final blow (and, ironically, have all chances to get a lossmail). And Eve really doesn't encourage solo PvP... so the only reliable way to get a killmail is to bait noobs in hisec (which is one type of killmail i would consider more of a fail than any number of lossmails - but i'm probably a minority in that)...
Some people will likely feel they are being robbed of "carebear tears" if this comes through, but Eve is full of ****ery as it is; does it really need extra encouragement?

Give the killmail to everyone involved, not just one person.

There is a brilliant solution in place already to fix this problem.
Wait for it....
Don't look at your kills/losses!
Its not like you are ever forced to look at it, heck id forgotten about some things id lost till I took a peek recently. (on an alt this time)
Second point - Yes everyone involved on the kill gets it would be cool. Though with the killboards that exist you still get the recognition and it shows up.

The only people that look at the Killmails are the PvPers, it doesn't worry the rest of us.

This isn't about my personal kills/losses. In fact, i'm fine with mine (well, most of them anyways). I just believe that too much emphasis is implicitly placed on killmails the way it is right now, shaping PvP in a way it shouldn't.
And frankly, i don't understand the reasoning of "just don't look at it". So there's functionality whose purpose is to not be looked at? Umm, makes sense... let's not request for anything to be fixed/balanced. If it's useless, just don't use it; if something about the game is broken, just don't play it... Yea, and if you don't even care about killmails, why do you care to reply to this suggestion?

Edited by: Pesets on 02/06/2009 13:24:49 To clarify again, i don't suggest removing killmails as a game feature, just making them removeable (i.e. not being a permanent record in the character sheet). There are reasons to have them, but not to have them forever.

deletion of killmails in the combat log?? What is it good for since the mail is posted on a killboard and persists there independetly of your account?? |

Well, conversely, what good is it in the combat log once it has been posted on the killboard? Wouldn't it make sense to be able to delete the record from your account (which is your account after all)?
Again, as i explained in the first post, it's just a psychological thing more than anything else. It places more emphasis on a loss that it deserves, and as such it's just that extra bit of discouragement to the forms of PvP where you risk losing your ship (even if it's justified in the big picture), while encouraging some others (like noob canbaiting, gate smartbombing, and other lame crap). Yes, i've seen people who don't like flying support for the sole reason that they get a lot of lossmails and don't get any killmails, and people who do the lame stuff just because it's yet another way to **** someone off. Yes, it's quite irrational, but it seems to me that it's also quite widespread. And yes, i believe the game would be better without it. |

silly idea
Also i am sure CCP wont allow you to remove loss/kill mails from your combat log, I have a funny fealing they might use this to run statistics, how ships are working with different fittings and so on and so forth, allot of behind the seanse balancing and what not.

I don't see what's the problem here? For every kill - one person gains a kill-mail and one person gets a loss-mail. All those who participated in it get to be mentioned in it. I don't see the problem in that.
And regarding vanity... good luck.

I get your point Pesets. I would like to be able to delete some stupid loss from over a year ago. But I guess it's no big deal.

Signed. I want to be able to erase useless killmail, is just make a simple button called "Delete", nothing more. If it have some problem just give the option to erase PVE killmails/losses, it¦s enough.
