Edited by: Zanarkand on 01/06/2009 23:30:24 ... but it lacts interesting things to do with those ships. I played EVE for about 3 years. I have tried resubbing and giving eve another go on my 4th year, but... it is just boring. Nothing interesting to do at all.
PVE fails hard. No further comment required.
PvP portion of the game also fails.
Now, in eve, there two types of pvp gangs, those who can engage a deathstar pos and those who cannot.
Small gang PVP and why it fails:
1. First of all, rewards are too small. I will take an abbadon standard t2 fit as an example:
abaddon, t2 fit: 50M + rigs 60M.... when lost in combat no more than half of the loot survives.
PvP kill reward is about 25% ISK of the fittings, which is too low. Rigs should be dropped as well, or make pvp wrecks salvage a lot better.
2. Lack of non-consensual pvp. Local is too strong as an intelligence tool. It gives you 100% immunity when 0.0 carebearing, 100% info on the enemy gang numbers etc. Evading any sort of non-consensual combat is made far too easy, you need to afk/new to the game to lose anything.
3. Jumpbridges, capital hauling pretty much deny any small gangs having any effect on 0.0 alliances.
In my opinion, small gang PvP could be better described as just for fun PvN(Player vs Noob), because that is almost all there is to it. Just random noob ganking, that does not have an effect in 0.0 politics in any way. I have to say that i did enjoy it, and it was the main thing that i did in EVE(most of my pvn history?), but eventually it got boring and i just cannot be bothered anymore.
Big gang pvp:
1. As an ex-member of TRI and BoB i have been in ~30 capital gangs. Result? A lot of dead poses, 1 fight(more like a for fun Battleship suicide by RAZOR) were i was so lagged out i only got on one killmail. All in all it was so dull, that even the remote thought of being in BoB for any longer was... irritating.
2. Those semi-big (rr) BS gangs are almost synonymous to "alliance op, do 40 jumps, wait 30 min, be blobbed up, log off in a random system X." Good thing i started ignoring them and left the alliance that might have cared if i did not participate in those ops.
3. Complete bombardments on alliances/systems mean little, because game mechanics do not allow to destroy enemies financially. Mega-ops vs alliances end up with nothing more ego posts on caod and outpost switching hands. Nearly all of the POSes and personal/corp assets survive, this in turn takes away any need for commitment in 0.0 politics.
I still like some concepts of EVE(one server, scifi setting), but PVE fail, PVP does not exist, and PVN got boring. I would like EVE a lot more, if CCP did this(many agree with me):
1. Remove local 2. Remove killmails 3. Remove capitals 4. Remove highsec lvl4/massive boost to 0.0 and lowsec rewards 5. Massive pos nerf edit 6. Develop a decent pve portion of the game

EVE isn't boring. It used to be fun. It just got boring... PVN was very fun, i truly enjoyed it, great game, i would recommend it to anyone, but... it got old.

Zanarkand knows what he's talking about - he's been a one-man army for years, never mind the massive small gang experience he has.
That said I agree, but I just don't think such a radical approach is realistic on any terms, both due to the rather ******ed playerbase and CCP's $$$-loving nature.
1. Remove local - yes, delayed local would be absolutely excellent, I don't think it'd be overpowered either 2. Remove killmails - but I love my KM whoring 3. Remove capitals - too late 4. Remove highsec lvl4/massive boost to 0.0 and lowsec rewards - YES, oh god yes. Highsec mission running - both L4 grinding and flying through massive numbers of L3's - is the most terrible ISK printing machine with little to no risk involved, especially with the extremely low T2 prices. 5. Massive pos nerf - moon minerals getting diversified would serve a great purpose IMO; right now it's either about r64s or putting pointless effort into lower quality moons. This could be paired well with more POS modules getting thrown outside the shields (silos, miners etc) with the possibility of disabling said modules.
I miss the days when going out for a one-night roam meant you came back richer than you were before purely due to PvP loot, nowadays it's about getting even if you use faction ammo :\

Remove kill mails?
But how will we gloat of grief you for your failure to fit a ship correctly. Especially since i have seen some recent mothership kills where there was too much fail on the fitting, such as no tank.
