If you have a spare 20 minutes, here is a really interesting TED talk given by a neuroscientist who experienced a stroke first-hand.
Some of you might've seen it already but hopefully some will find it revealing.

Wow!!!
I have worked with more then a few stroke survivors and none have had descriptions that even come close to that, but I guess that has to do with her background.
Very interesting.

I think she got very lucky. If it was not for her analytical mind, which helped her to focus, she could have died. I most likely would not have tried to stare at a card, and for 45 minutes, only to figure out what my own work phone number is. That is only a will a neurologist can develop in such a situation. Dialing 999 is of course easier to dial, but who knows if one actually knows what this number means and if it can be remember in such a situation.
And she has got a great sense of humor! "I have a stroke! How cool ... but I do not have time for it!" -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

but I guess calling work could've been better, because emergency services could've just thought it's a prank call.

Absolutely amazing, a life changing video. Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to pass it on to some of my family who are also work in health care. |

No. If you make a prank call on 999 they will get you for abuse. I am pretty sure about that, but I have not tested it. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

Only she knows.
What I found weird was that she showed the audience a real human brain.
Imagine donating your body to science. What is it you think? You think of how this will help science to uncover mysteries, of how your body may help in finding cures, etc.
You do not vision a scientist, who is presenting your brain on TV and with your spinal cortex dangling around like I do not know what.

She did not glorify anything. She described how she felt at that time. If she felt like it was a glorious moment, and when she is a neurologist knowing best how serious this is, then I think it must have made her feel very sad. And she did describe how she felt in the ambulance car, too. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

Half of you have probably already seen this on Digg by now, but whatever, this is another story of some guy having brain surgery and being changed.

The story of the "Masterstroke" is fake.
'I had never even set foot in an art gallery, let alone tried creating my own art work.'
This only proofs that he never tried. His art is then anything but impressive. My father, who is retired, draws just as good and I consider him an idiot. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |
