1. You can fly through suns and planets.
2. You can shoot through all that is between you and your enemy.
3. You can never take cover behind an asteroid when you get fired.
4. Why?
5. Discuss!

In short, cpu cycles is why. But I agree it takes away a lot from the game.
Well I guess it may would be a lag fest that CCP can't handle and I do know now what insted of hiding behind a rock so should
I have the right fitting with electronics modern warfare fittings

I have suggested for a while now that the client computing collisions with *celestial* objects, ie, planets, moons, suns, etc., and then plotting appropriate course from one point to a destination, should be completely possible and add just that little bit of "realism" that would stop these silly questions about warping through planets and suns... =P
Well I guess I will anchoring a control tower in a moon then with my tail between my legs

CCP Oveur responded saying that to put it in was entirely possible, but it would take longer for you to warp from Ato B while your ship navigated around he planets. Much longer. He then asked if it was still something everyone wanted and asked for a show of hands. Needless to say, the topic moved on.
Bummer... I hadn't heard this. I don't get to go to Fanfests... My wife keeps me on a short leash. I will, however, voice my opinion as a member of I'm sure a very minor minor minority that increasing time to warp through systems isn't always a bad thing if it reflects what "reality" might be. Of course, "reality" might be that generated warp fields *do* allow one internet spaceship to pass through planets and starts via some wierd molecular phasing or some such stuff thingie whatever.
I would like to still see it though. If the only excuse is that it would lengthen travel time and players hate that, then why not give players what they really want and not have to travel through systems at all? I shall gather my troups and march on CCP HQs demanding that all ships be able to insta-port from gate to gate. Hmm.
Slippery slope arguments are an admission that there is no other good argument(c). And I excell at such arguments! =D
But how about the asteroid belts ?
