Hey just bought EVE and I havea few questions (which will proabably grow)
Can I change the way my avatar looks after I already decided everything?
What skills should I star training as a general course?
And I didnt have time yet to do the whole tutorial, will do by tomorrow, but just wanted to ask anyway: do you have any general advice for new players about something that the tutorial may not cover?
thanks for everything,
Hope this game will be fun |

You can do minor changes to your avatar but can't change your race, name, gender etc etc. Regarding skills, while there are a few general skills that are good no matter what profession you choose, I would try to decide fairly quickly what you want to do. As there is no general course you wont get any answer for that. Even if you pick one profession (note the lack of a better word), we would easily look at a list of 50 odd skills. It wont free you from understanding what skills are for. There is on advice that applies in general. Pick something and stick to it unless it gives you the urge need to not hit the undock button (unless you are a station trader ofc). If you skill left, right and center you wont be good at anything for years.

Make friends that undock with you. It can greatly increase you success rate (unless you are a station trader ofc).

You can change everything but basic bone/body structure (which includes gender, race, etc). This means you can change eyes, hair, clothes, body modifications (tattoos, piercings, scars, implants, etc), and some other things.
Palandiell Chanlin wrote:What skills should I star training as a general course? Whatever you want. A nice show of what you can do in Eve is this graph: http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/
If you give us more details on what you want to do, we can give you more details on what to do to make it happen.
Palandiell Chanlin wrote: And I didnt have time yet to do the whole tutorial, will do by tomorrow, but just wanted to ask anyway: do you have any general advice for new players about something that the tutorial may not cover?
There is a TON of basic advice that the tutorial does not cover. Some things off the top of my head:
- Don't fly what you can't afford to lose (classic Eve saying). Note that it's what you "can't afford to lose", not what you "can't afford to replace". You can fly expensive stuff so long as you're at peace with it going boom.
- If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong, or you should be doing something else.
- Hisec is not 100% safe.
- Eve is a social game. Join a corp ASAP, preferably a newbie-friendly one who doesn't mind teaching you the basics.
- Very few things in Eve are "fair". The trick is to get them to be unfair in your favor.
- Past a certain point, high skill points only mean more choices, not meaningful extra performance. The "skill ceiling" is pretty low for most ships (at least, compared to the years and years people play Eve).
- Corollary: doing things "right" is often more important than having more SP than the other guy.
There are many other things, but others can probably help there too.

k thanks, just a few more questions:
1) I think my microphone plug in my pc is damaged. Does it matter if I dont have a headset?
2) I bought my game in German, yet I am fluent in english. Should I change the language? (which I heard was possible)
3) Where and how do I find a noob friendly corporation? and how does things work with switching beteween different ones? |

3) Where and how do I find a noob friendly corporation? and how does things work with switching beteween different ones?
4) got the EVEmon for my character, but it says skillqueue information not avaible. how do I get the EVEmon to access it?
A:
1) That totally depends on the corporation you join, and what you do in EVE. Some corps are heavily on the use of voice comms, some are okay if you can only listen to voice comms only, some don't use them at all. Also mining and basic PvE (missions and ratting) can be done without voice comms while for instance with Incursions and PvP voice comms usually are mandatory to work properly (saying something while clicking stuff is quicker then having to move to chat and type in stuff).
2) No idea here sorry. Dutch so got the English install
3) You will be looking for Newb friendly corp, not a noob friendly corp (Here is the difference, top is Newb while bottom is Noob). You can find corporations using: Forums (Corp and Alliance recruitment part), use the in game search engine or join the following chat channel: Recruitment (loads of advert spammers in there). I also like to point out the following Forum-post to read through, it's a great guide to players looking for a corporation and what to pay attention too.
As for switching corporations. It's possible to switch corporations, if you have roles in a corp you have to cancel them and wait 24h after that, if you don't have roles you can instantly join another corp. Keep in mind though, if you have 40 corps in your history (publicly available) in just 3 months, loads of recruiters will turn you down as you are either a corp-hopper or a possible spy/griever.
4) EVEmon needs an API to work. These can be found here, make sure the API have no expiry date and includes at least your skill info. *Personally I have 1 API that has everything ticked and use it for EVEMON, EFT, EVEHQ and other stuff that is Private, for every other thing I have to hand out an API I make a new separate one just to be sure* Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. You will be flagged a thief for 15 minutes. Anyone in the corp you stole from can choose to attack you during that time. You cannot attack them until they attack you first.
Beware of bait, and that many jetcans are used with the intent of starting consensual hisec PvP.

The corporation dont get notified as such, but you do appear on overview as a "flashy red" so are free to target and shoot due to your theft. I assume in local channel as well you appear as a valid target to the corp as well. The kill rights on you last 15 minutes. So yes, you could steal, dock and then wait 15 mins You can look in the wreck / can freely, it is only when you take anything do you get the timer

They have no practical use, no harm in keeping them, no harm in scrapping them

Eve-University is a player run organisation that acts like a university. Teaching you various aspects of the game. There are various organisations that offer this service, as well as newb friendly corps, but Eve-University are one of the bigger ones

On the left hand side of your screen when docked you will have two buttons at the bottom. One opens your ship hangar, the other opens you items hangar |

Ok I'm drunk. Sorry. Can't help it.
Good luck and remember, it will take a very long time to experience all of the content in this game. Don't rush it, but if you get bored, don't give up. There are moments in this game that will be epic and they are worth the wait.

You can assemble and fit out as many ships as you like (and your wallet allows).
Yet, obviously, you can only fly 1 ship at the time.
So you can switch ships to the one you need whenever you want (as long as that ship is located in the station you are docked in).
Ships in EVE started packed (means like real life stuff, in a box and need be build yourself). You can see if it's packed by looking in the lower right corner, if it shows a number (1, 2, 3, 5000) it's a packed ship (stack).
Right click your ship and select assemble ship, this will put the ship together to be able to sit in it.
Right click again and select activate ship, you are now sitting in the ship and will undock it once you hit the undock button.
You can also Repackage ship to make them 'small' again, keep in mind that if you put rigs on a ship and you repackage it the rigs will be destroyed, any other module fitted on the ship will be taken from it and shows up in your hangar. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. You can't fit a ship without being in it.
Ammo changes several things to guns / missiles:
- Optimal range changes - Fall off changes - Damage types , damage amounts - Tracking changes (for guns)
As for Antimatter Small (75mm needs small ammo) it depends if it's put on market by other players. If not, you have to move to another region and see if it's there or build your own ammo using a blueprint. But usually ammo is generally well seeded to the market in empire, so maybe you typed it a bit wrong in the search engine. Or you changed the scope of the market (top left there is a choice between: Region - System - Station and on the bottom left there is a tick box "Only show available"). If you ahve the tickbox ticked and you select station, and not AM Small is sold in your station (but it is in another station somewhere in your region) it won't show up. You get all these rookie training materials, such as civilian afterburne or civilian codebreaker etc.
these things are useless once you have completed training right? its only for the first few introduction missions, and completly useless in the "real" eve world right? |

Some items only works in tutorials (e.g. civilian salvager). Others can be used outside tutorials (e.g. civilian afterburner) but non-civilian modules are so much better that you should get them as soon as possible.
EDIT: One interesting exception is a ship which does all damage with drones. In such a ship you often want single weapon which is only used to get NPC enemies attack you before you launch drones. Some players uses a civilian weapon here, since they dont need ammo and it doesn't matter how much damage weapon does in this case. New to EVE? It's useful to hang on to the others (afterburner, shield booster etc) while your fitting skills are low as you might be able to use them in situations where you are unable to fit anything else. |

Autopilot will warp you to 15km from next stargate, then fly at maximum speed that 15km before going through stargate. And repeat that until at destination.
Because of that 15km travel autopilot is slower than flying manually (where you can just warp right next to stargate), but in fast ship like frigate/shuttle it isn't that bad. Just remember never to autopilot in expensive ship or with expensive cargo or you will be killed even in highsec.
(If you set station as destination, autopilot will dock to that station. If solarsystem is destination, autopilot will stop once you are in right solarsystem and leave you in space near stargate.)
