I am currently flying in a Harby and loving it. My question: is the grass greener on the other side? EveMon gives a ~102 day training estimate (most of my learning skills are @ 4) to train into the ship. I've got a little over 3m SP at the moment with heavy influence in gunnery and engineering (most turret support skills are 3/4).
The corp I'm in is my own and I'm currently running highsec lvl 2's (3's are just a tad out of my reach).
Thanks for any info.

The Absolution is a Command Ship not a HAC my friend.
Whether it is worth it depends on what you want to do. PvE no it isn't, PvP in the right gang it could be. I love the ship but arguably it isn't as good as an Armageddon or as cost effective as a Harbinger.

At 3mil SP? No.
A command ship takes alot of SP to make it really shine, and is normally pimped out for fun more than anything.
However, if you want it, go for it. You need a goal to play this game, afterall. |

Edited by: Kassa Daito on 06/06/2009 17:43:31 The Absolution is among the best LV3 ships available and can run 4s very well. For highsec LV4 PvE though an equally skilled Abaddon or PulsePoc pilot will outperform it for comparable ISK and much less effort + be better running the Navy Apoc/Nightmare when you can afford them and closer to training for the Paladin, all of which completely outclass Absolution.
For PvP, the Absolution is a much more expensive, significantly better version of the Harbinger. In a fleet or large gang situation where you can be reasonably protected from swarming then it's pure pwnage because of the better tank, extra DPS, and better fitting stats. For solo and small gang work though the T1 variant works better because you can actually afford to lose one. ***************

the absolution is one of my favorite ships, however i rarely fly one. even though i can afford them the rediculous cost doesnt justify there extra stats. the absolution doesnt fit well into the current meta game and although the extra tracking is nice over a bs the lack of dps and tank isnt. all in all there completely overshadowed by t3, as t3 does everything the abso does but bettter and seeeing as neither are cheap ill e flying t3 thanks.

right yeh but thats not an issue for me, all i said is t3 cruisers are better ad that id be flying them, i also said i cant really find a good reason to justify absos cost, whereas i can justify t3s extra cost, espcially when i can get a 500k ehp 700ms super sacrelidge. also enitial cost is not a good indicator of isk efficiancy, ive lost alot of absos in situations where i wouldnt have lost a strat cruiser so we shall see, |

as above, absolution is a command ship not a HAC.
anyway, i'd say unless u are in a corp putting decent sized buffer BS fleets together then an absolution is not worth the training or ISK (you're looking at 300mil per absolution rigged and fitted). However, a big chunk of that 104 days is BC lvl 5 which will make your harbinger even better, and the other pre-reqs are generally useful too so eventually u'll get to a point when its not far away to train without having specifically trained for it, and thats when it'll be time.

the trick to training up to that 139 day ship is to go stepwise and focus your effort on pimping out the ships that are within easy reach. you start by quickly training to use your race's mods, then slowly building up your skills at using them effectively. by pimping out your combat and support skills, you put better ship classes within easy reach because t2 ships have support skills as pre-reqs.
start by training up for t1/t2 frigs, t1 cruisers and t1 battlecruisers, then train up your fitting and support skills to lvl 4 (for foundational ones like capacitor, mobility, and tanking) or lvl 5 if you're enjoying the ships you're flying and the style of pve/pvp you're doing and are in no rush to move on to the next ship class.
then train up more directly combat-related skills to 4/5 (weapon skills to 4 to move up to the next size, weapon support skills to 3/4, then weapon skills to 5 for that t2 weapon you want to use)
as far as spaceship command goes, train up frig to 4, or 5 if you wanna fly inties (fun, useful), assault ships (fun, not useful), stealth bombers (hugely fun, very useful, but pain in the ass training if you're not caldari) and ewar frigs (fun, relatively useful).
then train up cruiser to 4, train support and combat skills, and then train cruiser to 5 so you can use t2 cruisers (hugely fun, very useful.) the fun you have flying HACs and recons will keep you happy for quite a while, and puts BSes within easy reach.
later on, when you have decent skills in the ship classes you fly and pimped skills in your favorites, you move on to t2 BSes (only good for PVE and bomber fleets) or cap ships (if you fly with a 0.0 alliance and would like to participate in POS/fleet warfare) |

At about 35 mil sp I see the Command Ships as nice alternatives to my main ships, but nothing you should focus on as a kinda new player. |

For missions you should be looking at battleships. When you get into PVP then you can start comparing the abso. Eventually it will become a question not of SP, but of cost/benefit. I can fly an abso, but I'd rather fly a harby since I can fly it like I stole it and not worry about getting it blown up. |

if you train for that ship and only that ship... at 16m sp you could be in one with ease.
all support skills at 5.. ie engineering and electronics etc, gunnery support skills at lvl 4 and medium laser specs at lvl 4, commandships at 4, and including decent drone skills.
I have not flown a absol since b4 the web "fix" so i have no idea how she will perform,
just depends on what you wish to do with youre char...
