Hey guys, something's been bugging me and I thought I would share it with you all...
I, like many people fly level 4 missions in a battleship. I use railguns which are great for the most part but there is a problem. When battleships I am shooting get to close (using antimatter charges let's say 10k) I can no longer hit them and have to either get some range which takes forever or give the job to the drones.
I was wondering if anyone here knows of a way to improve your accuracy at close range whilst still using large railguns?
Looking forward to the discussion.

Get a tracking computer unless you already use a Megathron. Then adjust your movement to minimize transversal velocity. Easiest way to do that is to zoom in on the target, pan around until you look at the engine, double click on the direction the target is flying. Keep adjusting your course to keep up with the orbit.
This will allow you to hit cruisers orbiting you at 2500m. At least it worked for my Hyperion. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Interesting thought, the only problem is I'm in a Kronos so I'm salvaging at the same time to constantly adjusting my movements isn't really possible. Any ideas for staying still? ------------ Space Whale Hunting - |

In a Kronos you should be killing them before they get that close in almost every mission.
If you don't have one, definitely add a tracking computer or stasis webifier to your build. You should have at least one tracking computer on a Kronos, even with the ship bonus, to compensate for the poor natural tracking of rails. I run 2x Tracking Computers on my Kronos. This lets me hit frigates above 15km, cruisers above 5km and battleships at 0km.

Well, fit a tracking computer with both opt. range and tracking mod in cargo. Depents on the situation load them accordingly. If you still have problem hitting fast moving cruisers, get 1 web drone and that should do it.
I usually deal with cruisers from afar and let drones take care of ceptors. Once all the large ships and long range targets dead, I switch out combat drones with web drones and load tracking mod to take out the fast close range cruisers. It is pretty easy once you start to use tracking mod and webbed them with drone. Those close range cruisers don't do much damage so leave them as long last targets isn't a big deal on tanking. |

Tracking script and web drone will let you deal with any cruiser size ships regardless how close they get. (in missions not pvp) |

Depends on the situation but in a Kronos I'd say: for BSes beyond base antimatter range use range scripts, for anything >40KM use range scripts and drop to the next shorter ammo type, for everything else use tracking scripts. |

Wait a minute, you're in a Kronos and having trouble tracking things below 14km ish?
Just get a gallente navy web, it'll reach out to 14km and have a -90% velocity mod thanks to the ship's bonus, tracking problems solved... __________________________________

Waste of your drone space.
It is some time ago i used my navy mega for missioning (1 week till kronos), now using CNR. But i dont remember having any difficulty tracking battleships. Sure cruisers were irritating, frigates impossible (when they got orbit).
But if you fit a tracking computer to increase your tracking (which you should have), the idea is pretty much to use a tracking script when you need more tracking (you can use others for long range). Depending on the mission i would either use dual (serp) tracking computer, or tracking comp + gallente web.

id say improve your turret skills bud i have them get to 3km and use 425's at that range and still hit them and have better damage then i did at 45km. then again i have 10mil in gunnery but my base skills are at lvl 4 and 5 mostly 5 |

On my Kronos, I use a Gallente Navy tracking computer. I also use "keep at range" to help keep the transversal velocity down. My T2 425mm rails don't have much trouble hitting most BSs and BCs when I do this. |
