I've got an armour fit, but i hear shield tanked is better for 0.0 ratting. Eve Fit (yeah, yeah i know) gives a sustained defence of 441 (my skills). I've looked at other fits similar to the above that all field 4 large extenders. Droping to 3 and putting in the Invul field gives better resists (feedback here is welcome ) The main concern here is no speed which for 0.0 seems fail.
Constructive comments
Thanks in advance.

I sure hope you are in VERY friendly 0.0 space with that, because that's a flying coffin if someone hostile enters system.
Other than that, fit rat specific hardener not IF2. And get t2 SPRs...

too much tank for 0.0 belt ratting imo. If you are doing difficult plexes sure, otherwise fit some rails and damage mods, armor tank with an AB or something to speed tank. sentries are way better for ratting as well, if you have skills... you want to kill stuff as fast as possible basically |

rep, cpr, hardeners, mwd, rechargers, salvage/tractor, sentries/heavies/lights.
Make a bm 50/60km above each belt, warp in, drop sentries, pop frigs, pop bs, warp to next bm. If you don't have tii sentries remember that they deal the same dps as heavies but don't need to waste time travelling, can be scooped if they/you get shot/pvped and allow you to always keep range from the belt marker. |

Thanks for the BM advice. The linked guide says shield tanks are better for an ishtar when ratting ???

Shield tanking is great for missions. So it would also be good if you were in very friendly space where you could run home if bad guys are spotted roaming.
If there is a chance you would suddenly be forced to PvP then you should stick to your PvP setup and hope to not get blobbed.
Best defense is cloak and staring at local. Local + one then SS and cloak. Plan on logging off because those guys will probe you long time for tech 2 kill.
So really, 0.0 rat in a Drake. or passive shield tanked Myrm. Really. Unrigged armor myrm insured you'd be even in about 15 min of ratting.

I use this setup and its working agains Sansha well:
high: tractor beams, salvagers med: 10 AB, cap rechargers low: MAR, 800 plate, DCU, 2 specific hardeners rigs: optional ogres t2, hobgoblins
perma tank, no problems with tanking any rats. if u rich and will use this ishtar only for ratting, put salvage rigs there.
with good capacitor skills, you can swap 1 cap recharger for web / point :) |

I wouldn't shield tank the ishtar if ratting in 0.0 space. You want at least 3 things:
> MWD > some sort of tank > cloak
I use a mixture of armor tank combined with a some speed/agility rigs. Here is my setup
[Ishtar, Ratting Sanshas] Medium Armor Repairer II Armor EM Hardener II // CHANCE ACCORDING TO NPCs Damage Control II Adaptive Nano Plating II // CHANCE ACCORDING TO NPCs Adaptive Nano Plating II // CHANCE ACCORDING TO NPCs
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Large Capacitor Battery II
Civilian Gatling Railgun, Civilian Railgun Charge // AGGROWEAPON Small Tractor Beam I Salvager I Improved Cloaking Device II Small Remote Armor Repair System II // OFFLINE
Low Friction Nozzle Joints I Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Acolyte II x10 Praetor II x9 Vespa EC-600 x5 // LIFESAVER
How to use: Enter belt --> kick the MWD --> orbit enemies close --> deploy drones --> profit
If you get caught (which shouldn't happen) use Vespas to get out.

What about the usual Nano-Setup? Get into the belt, fly towards the NPC, drop Heavies and zoom around. |

Get in close, orbit, kill target. Has 150tank vs guristas/serp, which is extra plenty. You're doing 700 DPS, so they'll drop quicker than you know anyway.

i scout ahead with an alt to check for bubbles. then i bring in this:
salvager, tractor, 150mm rail 10mn AB, drone nav (x2 if u can fit), medium cap battery II, cap rech II 3x rat specific hardeners, MAR II, DCII
ogres x5, hobs x5
you shouldnt be fitting an mwd if ure using ogres. reason being u need to stay close to scoop them. AB allows u to speed tank large plexes without any issues. obviously if caught, ure dead... so scout ahead. that being said, sentar is vastly superior if u have t2 sentries. sentry rigs, omnis x3, and ure set. |

I've ratted in Ishtar for a freaking long time, and here is the best setup I could come up with:
[Ishtar, Armor tank] Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor EM Hardener II Medium Armor Repairer II Damage Control II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Sentry Damage Augmentor I Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Garde II x5 Bouncer II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Warrior II x5
I was ratting in Drone regions, so omni-tanked. Also, 3x tractors are to get alloys, since drone salvage is garbage and isn't worth the time, and because of CPU shortage. Holds 3 drone BS spawns long enough to take first one out and drop the dps to permatanked levels. Keep attention on local and you will be fine. Have a few safespots in the system and warp between them, with the current scan system and the fast alignment time you are pretty much safe.
If you prefer ogres/don't have sentries II trained, you can opt for this setup:
[Ishtar, Armor tank] Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor EM Hardener II Medium Armor Repairer II Capacitor Power Relay II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II 10MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Capacitor Control Circuit I Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Ogre II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Warrior II x5
Charge in with MWD, then orbit @ optimal on AB. While you are MWD'ing, let warrior II loose on any webbing/scramming frigs. |

[Ishtar, Sansha Ratting] Medium Armor Repairer II Armor EM Hardener II Armor EM Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
200mm Railgun II, Uranium Charge M 200mm Railgun II, Uranium Charge M 200mm Railgun II, Uranium Charge M

Garde II x5
Rig however you like, I would probably not bother rigging though as the fit is very tight and for ratting it already does everything perfectly. This setup rips through anything and can perma-tank all but the most brutal 1.85m triple spawns. And for those you range tank. |

Edited by: oMAKo on 09/06/2009 15:16:24 Thanks for the responses guys, some good advice and interesting builds. I am surprised though that the majority are armour tanked. Looking at the guide, it swears by shield. Stats show a better 'tank' for shield over armour. Has the switch over to armour been down to the nano nerf?
Not bashing any of the above posts of course, just curious |

"The guide" is broad. You're asking for something specific and unique, 0.0 ratting. Yes shield tanking is better if you need stupid high numbers of tank, but ratting in 0.0 is extremely easy, thus you can do much better with a high damage setup, or a setup based on manueverability. Finally, many of the things the wiki says are just plain wrong, so take them as a suggestion, but FAR from a rule.

shield tank is appropriate for L5's and difficult L4's...otherwise youre gimping your mobility. i guess u could still shield tank and fit an AB, so up to you.

[lows] dcuII 2 hardeners based on rat medium armor rep II eanm II
[mids] 10mwd II cap recharger II web II painter warp disruptor II (too lazy to change this to something else)
[hi] salvager/tractor
this is what I use, warp to belt, mwd to rat, let web and painter and drones go, when dead tractor wreck as I head to next rat. I chain so dont kill the baby rats. i like it cuz drones are real close to me so if hostiles warp in, i recall drones and by the time i have warp to safe spot engaged, drones have already come back to mama
i dont like shield power relays, well, having so many of them. cap recharge takes along time and if u have to hit mwd or hit the repper, it takes along time to recover from it. especially as you burn cap just warping from belt to belt looking for rats.
