yeah maybe its intels chipset drivers fault no idea, certainly its not CCPs fault. Though I'm wondering how the drivers work with earlier cards but not with the 7k series... I'd understand it if the 7k driver was only for this series, but it's for all from 5k series on. Doesn't make sense in my eyes.
FYI, my current rig, I had a pair of very dated 4xxx in a crossfire setup before I upgraded to the 7970 earlier this year. This same rig played nicely with eve...so I'm thinking it's something in the software/coding for the next (current?) gen cards. Still a damn shame though. And I've no intention of going back to those dated cards. Gotta play ps2 with all the pretties turned on after all. |

I've jumped from a 4890 crossfire to a single 7970. Also had no problems wit the crossfire setup but I can't see the point. From my understanding a driver doesn't act different because of another setup, besides you enable features that haven't been available on the older setup. Miracle... |

The 12.10 driver didn't fix the problem for me. The computer still freezes when using the star map. |

Well, I straight used the 12.11 beta, had no lockups for 30mins now (unthinkable with earlier drivers). Though, one of my last crashed ****** up my window settings ingame aswell, prolly it has to do with it aswell (god knows). Anyway, atm it's running with 12.11 beta with everything set to high ingame and "use app settings" in CCC. The AA-mode is set to adaptive AA with multi-sampling. |

When using the star map on 3 or more accounts simultaneously it takes like 2 minutes for the computer to freeze. Using the star map on one account caused the computer to freeze after 10 minutes. I tested both, 12.10 and 12.11 driver. |

I just tried the 12.11 beta drivers linked a couple posts up, ran a reboot, launched Eve, hit F10, and right after the map loaded, BAM, another hardlock.
So no love for my own system. I'm starting to wonder if there's maybe something wrong with my rig that is causing issues above and beyond the obvious?
Is there anything in the game folder related to the star map that could be corrupted? Would blowing out the eve install and starting from scratch do anything? I had initally thought my HD was bad so I purchased a new SSD to try that theory out....same problem immediate system freeze.
I've already submitted the issue to AMD as a Dev suggested way up thread, Has AMD confirmed that they are working on the issue at all?
On a side note, I'm reluctant to throw away a 105+ Million skillpoint character...but I'm seriously considering just walking away and saving myself a bill when I can't enjoy the game. Not raging against CCP or anything, just stating a frustrating fact. |

@pigeonholed - i have tried 2 reinstall's and each time ive reinstalled eve iv tried different video card drivers (i run a saphire HD7850 ATI card) first set of drivers was the 12.11 beta and the other was a previous update from about a week ago and both to no avail.
im considering just getting an nvidia card as they seem to not be having this issue.
although i only get the issue while ratting or probing and in the eve log (ctrl + alt + shift + M) keeps showing that eve is failing to load models for ships and wrecks. one thing that is continually repeated is SVC:michelle - BALL NOT IN PARK???? no idea what that means.
im trying a few different drivers this arvo ill post when ive tried them.
it seems coincidental that the problems iv been having started after the eve patch from monday/tuesday night, before that no worries, all went fine, but i had a VC update around that time aswell..... |

Try running the game in windowed mode, but at the native resolution of your monitor, as it works fine that way for me since i installed these latest betas and haven't crashed since......They will lock up if playing in full screen mode for some reason, or with eyefinity enabled across 3 monitors, so the problem is still there. |

@ Digital & Kraillach. I was running in full screen, but that's due to only running one client. Good news! I launched Eve in windowed mode and the client DOESN"T HARD LOCK MY SYSTEM when I launch the star map! Halleulejah!
Also, I actually got a reply back from CCP on my bug report, they said it can't be duplicated?! The fact that I've duplicated the issue every time I've launched the client in Fullscreen kinda negates that.
That being said, this is acually a useful data point.
Hopefully it can help resolve the overarching issue, as for me personally, playing in windowed mode is a bandaid, not an actual fix.
Cheers all, and I'll update when I hear more on drivers or if I have another hard lock! |

It's ridiculous random how this crash appears. You ppl got problems with the map, I ran into a single crash while using it (although I was trying to get one with zooming in/out, hovering and what not). Well, I had no crash for two hours now but after what you ppl say, I'm expecting to run into one or more again. Do you ppl use the flattened version of the map? Cause that's what I'm using myself.
My crashes always happend if shooting (getting shot didn't crash my sys for whatever reason) or used drones, so the thing about a models error Krailling posted would make sense.
@Pigeon It's hilarious that CCP can't reproduce this crash. It's quite easy - board/cpu with Intel 1366/2011 socket together with a card of the 7000 series can reproduce this afaik. |

ok tried digitals suggestion of changing it back to the natural res of the screen.... didnt help unfortunately.
i wiped all my graphics drivers and reinstalled the base ones that came with the card (turned off auto update) and ran the game.... again didnt help.
as a crazy last resort i wiped my comp and did a top to bottom full reinstall..... nothing again.
i can do anything except rat and pvp...... living in null sec thats all i do.
im just gonna save myself any more heart ache and just get an nvidia card.
ive got screenies of the error log that show what the problem is, ill upload em when i get home from work. |

I dunno, i haven't had a crash or lock up playing the game at 2560*1440 on a 27" display( samsung SA850's + 4 AMD HD7970's in quad crossfire), ever since i play in window mode with all in game options maxed out.....I crash and burn like the other people here as soon as i select fullscreen in the options. |

I-¦ve been having freezes for months now. I've tried all fixes mentioned in this thread and a few more, with no joy. I have turned to playing my main on a desktop and an alt on my laptop, which went well for the past couple of weeks. However since yesterday I'm getting freezes while only running one client in windowed mode (less than 1920x1080). Once while using the map and another during a null plex.
Fogs getting worse again. |

I tested the Asus HD 7970 graphic card in a 4 years old computer. It has an Intel quad core CPU and a PCIe 2.0 x16 graphic card slot. I tested 3 accounts with open star map for one hour. The computer didnGÇÖt freeze.
I also tested the graphic card in my new computer with Intel i7 3820 CPU. I used a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot with one active lane. I tested 3 accounts with open star map for one hour. The computer didnGÇÖt freeze. When using the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot the computer freezes after like 2 minutes. The 1-lane slot is heavily throttling the graphic card. Maybe thereby it somehow prevented the computer to freeze. Or maybe the problem is in fact related to the PCIe 3.0 slot.

Well, I crashed yday, so my hopes became destroyed. -.-
@mramo It's not the pcie 3 slots, I'm running it on a X58 board which got only pcie 2. The crashes appear on boards with X58 and X79 chipsets afaik. So this is either a Intel problem or an AMD thing since only those two chipsets together with cards of the 7000 series are affected. :) |

Would also be interesting to know if there's any1 out there with the same setup not having this issue. |

No issues with Tribes:ascend here. But I get the hardlockups with eve in windowed mode.. especially with multiple clients or a video playing in VLC (hardware accel off or on). Would love for CCP or AMD to address this. Gonna sell/exchange my 7870 before that happens I bet. |

Wondering if any of you played with the "Effect" settings left side to the graphics settings. I played a bit around with it and as long as I keep "GPU particles" unchecked, I didn't get a crash for an hour now (not even while shooting, which usually means insta-crash for me). When I checked it again and opened the map, I got the sweet buzzing sound again... Could prolly any1 give this a go? |

CCP -- can we get an answer here about what is going on?
I just had my map F10 hard lock about 10 times in a row.
Makes it sorta hard to play the game. This was with two clients running. Win 7 64 bit, Intel i7 860, AMD 7970, 12.8 drivers. The nerfs to supercaps will cause more super pilots to join the largest alliances who can properly "support" their deployment, further concentrating firepower/wealth in EVE. The end result will be fewer "fun" fights, and will hurt EVE in the long run. |

Sorry if I have missed a post in this thread, but I wanted to ask. When you get this freeze, does the screen turn black, and you get a looping noise that sounds like a buzz? And then the only way to get control back is to hard-reset?
If so, I had the problem across multiple games on my MSI Twin Frozr III Radeon HD 7850 2GB OC Edition card. Specifically I had it when running an overclock. Even a tiny one of 50MHz core clock. I found that the drivers on the AMD website would cause any kind of overclock to cause crashes within the game, however when using the driver DVD supplied with the card itself (older drivers), the GPU will run fine and I can overclock it very far without any issues at all.
So.... if you have OC'd cards, try resetting the cards to the default they came shipped with, and try using the drivers supplied on the disc. It worked for me, may work for some of you. |

Back again with a working solution.
as stated earlier i tried running a mac pro hexa core xeon with a xfx ati 7950. system performance was great but i got random freezings with eve under windows 7 and the mac client sucks forever. so i swaped back to my ati 5770 and everything worked gread under win 7 and still sucked in osx. so went to a nvidia 560gtx and it worked great under win7 but the performace is not great on a big screen like 2550 x1440 resolution.
i still got my ati 7950 idleing arround on my desk. so i gave it a last try. i bought a i3 a gigabyte z77 board 8gb ram and set up a fresh windows with most recent drivers. i tell you. i never had a frozen windows again. can run 4 eve clients with every deatail on with 30-60 feames synced or even one client without sync with 250frames on the big screen. no freezing at all for 2 weeks now and i played alot. only thing is on 4 clients my i3 is running on 80-100% so no match for my hexacore xeon which is pritty bored while i use the mac pro now for webwork and Pictures :)
at least its not only ati/ amd fault :) and i enjoy the great performance with reduced power using. as my 7950 and i3 are nice powersavers :) with great performance for the buck i spend. |

Naxirian The fault just freezes the entire PC, as in the screen just gets stuck at whatever it is doing (including the mouse + Keyboard). I don't get black screen...and so far the only way I have found to recover is a Hard reset, even giving the PC 6+ hours to recover seems to be a waste of time.
Ra773 Is there not a solution that doesn't involve simply skipping over the issue, as your resolution suggests that the solution is a change in hardware? I am sure I speak for at least a few of us here in saying we spent good money hoping the 7xxx Series card would be a nice upgrade, to either switch to nVidia (costing yet more money) or swap out Mobo, CPU and maybe RAM.
So far this issue for me is ONLY affecting Eve Online, all my other games work perfectly. I RMAGÇÖed the GFX thinking the fault lied with that (as the fault occurred after upgrading from the 5970) only to have the supplier bench mark test it against some of the GFX intense games out there to be told it passed with flying colours. CCP should be looking into this issue more than AMD as they will lose prescriptions over this, I donGÇÖt want to stop playing but I canGÇÖt risk taking any ship into combat (PVE or PVP) with the risk my PC is a ticking time bomb of failure.
As the freezes (locks up) the entire PC, it has made it next to impossible to get any sort of diagnostics out of it. Even the Windows event logger doesnGÇÖt get any event apart from an unscheduled shut down, which doesnGÇÖt help me localise the fault.

Well, a little summary.
The hard locks (buzzig sound, screen freeze, only reset or power button helps, NO entry about a problem in windows events) happen on (as far as I know) sytems that run AMD cards of the 7000 series workin together with Intel's workstation chipsets (X58, X79) mostly.
Other games that are infected by this issue are Tera and Total Wat Shogon 2 (same hard locks from what google results show).
Neither CCP nor AMD are a help (afaik CCP weren't able to reproduce this issue which is quite ridiculous). |
