From the high altitude balloon? I understand the cameras taken up by the balloon were recovered and pictures posted. But the Pod itself fell off at one point.
When did it fall off, before peak altitude, or after, during descent? Was it recovered? Where did it end up? For that matter, there did the rest of the payload end up? http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

OK, so we know the history of the main vehicle. I was rather amazed at the turbulence it found up there. It looks like the pod came off quite close to when the balloon popped, but its not clear if it came off before or after it popped.
And we still have not heard what happened to the pod...... http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Several thousand years in the future archaeologists will find this pod and think Icelanders were a race of highly advanced space faring people, though very small ones. This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.-á Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless |

Heheh, that made me laugh.
But yes, success or not CCP should follow up on this and not leave it hanging in the dark.
Why did the pod break lose? Was that something the (students involved) forget to calculate in? Did you get the pod!? How high did the pod go before it claimed its freedom? If you got the pod, how deep was the crater?

The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

The "cables" attaching the pod to the framework were actually made of high tensile fishing line, in order to adhere to regulations laid down by the local authorities regarding launches into Icelandic airspace. Sadly the turbulence at around 40-44km was too much for the wire to take and they snapped, sending the pod plummeting back to earth.
Apparently they HAVE retrieved the pod, and there are also some videos of it somewhere. Try googling it all, its there somewhere. |

Ive been thinking about that "turbulence". It makes little sense, there is almost no turbulence like that at that altitude. What it could be: Balloons, while ascending, wobble side to side. Its the "Knuckle ball" effect, caused by vortex shedding. As the balloon rose and expanded the frequency of the vortex shedding, and hence the wobble, reduces. Eventually it became the same as the side to side swinging frequency of the payload under the balloon. The entire rig started oscillating until it failed.
The fix: Make the line between the balloon and the payload longer. Lower the frequency to a value that is not expected to be seen. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

This site has some info.
http://skywardsphere.weebly.com/index.html
Looks like the pod made it to at least 16 km, the balloon to 20 km. A little below the 30 km we had hoped for.
But still could not find the fate of the pod..... http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |
